Top 10 Pub food in Wells, England, United Kingdom

November 19, 2019 Trinity Boughner

Best Pub restaurants nearby. Discover the best Pub food in Wells. View Menus, Photos and Reviews for Pub restaurants near you.. The name Wells comes from the city's three wells dedicated to St. Andrew. Now there's a fun factoid to fill up your next awkward silence. In England's smallest city, you won't find the big summer crowds of nearby Glastonbury. Instead, you'll have more than enough room to sight-see as you please. And there are plenty of youth clubs to entertain the kiddies while you wander. The cathedral in Wells is the landmark attraction, but also check out the nearby Bristol Zoo Gardens and International Helicopter Museum.

The Pheasant Inn & Restaurant

We had been recommended this restaurant by the place we were staying at. We didn't reserve a table however.... On entering the pub area (full of what appeared to be locals) fell silent, all of them stared at us and we felt very awkward. I asked about table availability (bare in mind we could see that the restaurant was completely empty) and were told 'We're fully booked' Customer service was atrocious. It appeared they just didn't want us dining there! We ate elsewhere and the following night after met another couple, who also had the same experience when walking into the pub the following night! It appears to me that this is a Local Only pub and guests are not welcomeThank you for your message and I'm sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your experience. We do get very busy at weekends and always recommend booking a table to avoid disappointment. We work closely with local campsites and B&Bs and always suggest to them to get their guests to pre-book their meals where possible. We really don't like letting people down and I'm sorry that you were not able to dine with us during your stay. We pride ourselves on our customer service and welcome visitors and locals alike. We hope that you will call in again when you are next in the area so that you can enjoy our food and the atmosphere of our lovely country pub. Best wishes, Kim

Recommended to us by the owner of a holiday cottage nearby, the recommendation was worth it for the quality of the steak I enjoyed, along with the chips and the accompaniments. Not the biggest range of food on the menu, and if my wife was writing the review she might have given 4* as the lasagna was not to her taste (plenty of mince, but only one layer of pasta, and to her taste a rather thick coating of cheese on top). Portions quite large. Would have liked a "lighter" option for desserts, the three on offer on the day we ate were quite stodgy so we settled for just coffees. Booked a table as it was a Saturday but it wasn't overly busy (in June but before the Glastonbury festival) and our reserved table (along with several others) was in the bar area near the kitchen rather than the restaurant area. Never-the-less quite pleasant surroundings. Service was unhurried - occasionally difficult to get the waitress' attention.

Anton's Bistrot

Eclectic menu freshly prepared and featuring some of the finest local produce. Friendly, relaxed atmosphere, everyone welcome.

Monday lunchtime, so fairly quiet in the bistrot, although plate-loads of food were being taken into the bar of the Crown at Wells, an establishment dating back more than 500 years. Two menus are offered at lunchtime, a 'special' with set prices for 2 or 3 courses, including a glass of wine or alternative drink, and an à la carte. Being four grumpy aged people, we asked if we could pick and choose from both menues as three of the party were having a large dinner later in the day and one of us would have no time to eat again before 9:30pm. Service was splendid and nothing appeared to be too much trouble. When the dishes arrived, all were superb from both a quality and quantity point of view. Even the side dishes of fries were cooked to perfection – crispy exterior and soft inside.Wonderful review, thank you.Fabulous to hear how much you enjoyed your meal with us and thank you for taking the time to write such a positive review.

The Queen Victoria

This site is 15 minutes walk from the Mendip Hills CCC Campsite. Parts of the building date back to the 1700s, thick stone walls, tiny windows and extremely atmospheric. There was even a log fire going in one of the bars because the weather was unseasonably cool for June.We visited several times during our stay, three dinners and one lunch. The Queen Vic serves good, honest pub food without frills. The menu is limited to the usual pub grub stuff and reasonably priced. The Butcombe ales were excellent. A special mention must be made about the Steak and Ale Pie, made from scratch on the premises and delicious. A proper pie with a pastry top and bottom and packed with meat; the portions were very generous. There is plenty of outside seating and as the weather had improved during our stay this area was very busy.We love finding pubs like this on our travels. It is well worth a visit.

We were looking for somewhere different for an anniversary stay and found The Litton on Somerset Hotel website , looked interesting so booked a room for the night and a table for dinner. The website booking was easy and confirmed very quickly and a separate email to confirm dinner reservation. We stopped in nearby Wells and checked in just after 3. There are 2 car parks the biggest is at the front which must be on the main road, our sat have took us to the rear. Very quiet location all you can here is the running water from the brook. Friendly greeting, you checkin at the bar . We were shown to our room on the first floor looking out to the rear of the hotel. It was named The Luturne, well appointed with a really comfy bed with crisp sheets , a good shower and lovely vaulted ceilings. My only issue was that the lighting was so dim, even in the bathroom , making it very difficult to put on make up etc the room despite not having the heating on was very warm. Nothing was too much trouble all of the staff were excellent both at dinner and breakfast and were happy to chat about the history of The Litton. We had a few drinks in the bar , the wine list offers a good selection and even a vegan choice. The bar area is very dog friendly, and there are a couple of separate rooms and a small whiskey bar. The menu was not vast but offered some daily specials, the sticky pork special was nice and offered good flavours it probably could have done with being on a small plate with a small salad rather than a bowl. The battered goats cheese was good. The sirloin steak was cooked to perfection with some really tasty chips, the venison ragu was very tasty. A lovely evening, after a good night’s sleep , it was so lovely and quiet more food awaited in the form of breakfast. Non guests can also come in for breakfast and there is a good choice all cooked to order. The eggs benedict was just enough , the sausage brioche was massive 3 huge tasty sausages. Good coffee no room for anything else but the next table’s bacon and maple syrup pancakes looked really good. A lovely stay with great service from start to finish.

We were lucky to choose this place for our wedding anniversary meal - absolutely loved everything from the start! The hospitality and service were spot-on, and the food was just amazing, incredibly tasty, fresh and perfectly seasoned. I've never tasted chicken that tender in my life - it was one of those meals that you'll remember for a long, long time. We'll definitely visit again when we're in the area. Can't recommend it enough!

We have enjoyed lunch here a few times and were very happy with the food and service. The menu is quite extensive and the portions are massive so it is not for the faint hearted. The pub sits on the village street which is very quiet and there are no views, but we sat outside each time and enjoyed the local atmosphere.

Just in case you missed it earlier , the pub is empty totally . I say how long do you think it will take me to drink half a bitter. Anyway he comes back eventually and says he can serve me. Obviously I said don’t bother. On the way out the owner / landlord shouts out an expletive which I can’t put here and says don’t come back. What do you think, am I ever going to go back. Check my other reviews and you can see I am generally very positive. Please please don’t give this establishment your custom. Whatever the quality of the food don’t support rude serviceThis person attended our restaurant in an intoxicated state. Staff and management advised him he would not be served. He became verbally abusive and this caused alarm and distress to staff and customers. In order to safeguard our customers and staff he was asked to leave.
