Booked well in advance for father's day. Table was ready on arrival and restaurant was really busy. No surprise being fathers day. Waitress was really attentive, getting us a high chair and checking to see if we wanted a children's menu. Drinks order taken. Dads got a free pint of fosters or bitter. Main order taken and arrived quite quickly. Massive portion but really tasty. Had to grab the attention of a waitress for a wine order but overall the food was really nice, normally the potatoes are a little dodgy but not today. The only gripe would be serving parsnips which were tough as they are out of season. My husband then ordered the sticky toffee pudding and again got a massive portion. Really lovely meal. My only other issue would be the lack variety in the starter and dessert menus. We were also not aware of any specials until a guy shoved a huge slab of meat under our noses before we ordered and said this was a special on the sharing menu. Lovely place just a little understaffed at times; been multiple occasions and never noticed anyone in charge. Seems like different staff all the time and feels like everyone is part time and appears to me the pub is in desperate need for maybe a permanent assistant manager to ensure things are stocked and running smoothly. Think a little music outside would create a nice atmosphere. Be nice if staff cleared tables after serving a table. Frequently things are left to build up. It's actually a great village pub and an extra manager could turn into something really special. Food is generally good. Staff are nice and it's a nice location. Put an extra manager or assistant in there and could be truly amazing. Don't let this review put you off as it's a great pub just clearly missing an extra full time manager. Great place overall. Thank you for the kind review We have been a little short staffed lately however after talks with head office they have agreed to increase our labour budget which willEnsure more staff meaning we can keepThe pub cleaner, we do have a permanent assistant manager and general manager and actually only 2 part time members of staff everyone else is full time We hope to see you soon Kind regards

The friendliness and helpfulnes of the staff at this pub canât be beaten. When we arrived one lunchtime the music was quite loud, so I asked for it to be turned down in order to have a conversation with a hard of hearing friend. This was done immediately and cheerfully. There wasnât much choice on the menu as the food delivery van hadnât arrived by one oâclock. On the main menu there were only sausages , fish and chips and one portion of meat pie. Two of us had to have a piece each of battered salmon and cod. I donât think that battered salmon works, somehow. Because they were obviously short of what we wanted we were given a big plate of fried potato skins with dips, on the house. Delicious! We were also given larger portions of peas and tartare sauce.. The server was so very friendly and cheerful that we couldnât be cross! The lack of lunchtime food happened last time we visited the pub, so I do think that they need to keep more stock in the fridge. Nevertheless we left feeling cheerful, if a little exasperated.

On entering this pub, which is featured in the Good Beer Guide, you are confronted with a bland characterless room with nothing make you feel welcome and glad you came. To add to my despair the beer we had was very plain and tasteless. Unfortunately this is a pub where the prospect of leaving is greatly anticipated.

My mum, sister and I visited for lunch last week and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Mum had the Bacon and Cabbage, being a cabbage freak she was very pleased with the portion size and found the meal to be very tasty (this is a traditional Irish meal). My sister and I opted for the Beef Curry off of the Winter Warmer menu and it was definately warming, nice and spicy with rice, popadom and mango chutney on the side. Thanks for an enjoyable day :))

We have been here numerous times over the years and decided to spend a relaxing Friday night there. It was buzzing in the bar and restaurant. Our waitress as ever was Egzona and as ever she was superb. We had a sumptuous Gin & T each great variety... So Thanks Egzona you are a star. The food was so delicious we had the Lamb Steak & Pork Chop... well worth it. Having eaten in many places recently this was simply superb.... & then we shared the Panna Cotta... OMG how loverly was that!!! Thanks Flam & Vicky and especially Egzona for a really nice evening.. we will be back as ever and love the new refurb. Ta Ta for now xx Joanie & Andy

This is a lovely eclectic pub, which is unusual for Sutton. We came here for drinks only had we had previously eaten, but the menu here looked good - particularly the vegan offering! This place gets busy, has a good vibe to it, and is very dog friendly - exactly what a pub should be!

The Hope is still one of the best pubs in the country.......unless you have young children! Went in for lunch after taking my grandchildren swimming and, to my horror, was told NO CHILDREN UNDER 14, AT ANY TIME, ANYWHERE ON THE PREMISES, NOT EVEN IN THE GARDEN OR IF YOU'RE EATING. Apparently the rules changed on 1st July 2019. So, after many, many years of wonderful family gatherings, particularly at weekends RIP. On the up side, as far as I know, dogs are still more than welcome!!!

We went to the Harvester last Wednesday for a meal. We were shown to a booth with seats covered in sauce and the waitress looked quite perplexed when we asked her to wipe it before we sat down. I ended up saying we'd sit somewhere else as I wasn't convinced that she was even going to clean it. The table we were relocated to was very sticky and didn't seem that clean either. There was a thick film of dust on the dado rail and along the top of the seating at our table, there was squashed food under the table next to us that hadn't been removed - we watched the staff prepare the table for the next customer but they didn't clean the floor and whoever sat there next would tread in squashed peas and chips! Yuk. Food was ok and that is being generous. We ordered tea in a tea pot that was heavily stained on the spout, we asked for a new pot as we were not prepared to accept this one, replacement pot was just as bad so we gave up.As we were eating our desert we could hear two waiters having a massive row about who was going to clear the table next to us. Lots of swearing going on and sounded like things being bashed on the table.The toilets were disgusting - I won't even go into the state of what I saw as it was that unpleasant. Makes you wonder what the kitchens are like.Shall never return here, despite the previous times we've been and not loved it that much but it's local to where our friend lives, which is why we go there.
