It lies east of Hemel Hempstead and west of Hatfield, about 20 miles (32 km) north-northwest of central London, 8 miles (13 km) southwest of Welwyn Garden City and 11 miles (18 km) south-southeast of Luton. The Boot is rich in history being built around the time of The War of The Roses-The Battle of St Albans. It has beautiful old open timbers and low ceilings and specialises in excellent Real Ales. The pub has been a regular on the Good Beer Guide and has j
It is a few decades since I was last here but I decided to have a pint after a walk around Verulamium. One vast improvement, being over six foot, was that my head is no longer in a fug of smoke! Service was fast, polite and friendly. Although there appears to be a good selection of beers they also seem rather "samey". They are expensive too. I had a pint and a half of well kept beer. Some people were eating and the food looked good. Will probably come back and have a meal and a few pints at some stage.Toilets could do with a bit of a refresh!

We were recommended this local pub by friends for a Sunday lunch. We received a warm welcome and hot tasty food. Between us we had roast beef, roast pork and nut roast all of which were served with plentiful home cooked vegetables (and meat as appropriate) plus vegetarian and traditional gravies.Options also include vegans.Plenty of staff on duty (you don't find that with a chain).

Stumbled across this bar and restaurant on a wonder around St Alban's, and what a find! Super friendly bar staff who welcomed us with a warm smile and friendly 'hello'We were sat and left to decide from the extensive menu which is suitable for all (GF, Vegan, Vegetarian) They have a great selection of beers to accompany your meal. When the food arrived, we were thankful we hadn't eaten at all as the portions were huge. All cooked fresh and to your liking, while the attentive staff ensuring is good. This place is wonderful and we will definitely be heading back next time we are in town. Would highly recommend this place, but I wouldn't recommend you eat prior to your visit.

The Lower Red Lion is a prime example of a traditional English pub. We pride ourselves on the quality of our locally-sourced real ales (all of which come to us from a brewery within 35 miles of the pub). We take great care when sourcing the ingredients, c
Enjoyed a great Friday lunch at the Lower Red last week. The pork & chorizo burger was excellent. I can also strongly recommend the Sticky Toffee pudding. My family chose chicken and bacon sandwiches and no one was disappointed. Will definitely be back for more.

Great pub in the centre of St. Michaels village offering everything one would want from a "local". Can't believe it's not one unless the owners have requested so.
We found this lovely pub almost by accident and how lucky we were. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere relaxed and the food quality high. We enjoyed a couple of fish finger baguettes and a steak baguette. They were yummy, served with salad and chips and very reasonably priced. Washed down with a Four Pillars G&T, what a treat. We will certainly be back.

Dating back to the 16th Century, The Cock Inn remains one of the most popular pubs in St Albans. We are known for our great food, real ales and extensive wine list. In winter we have a roaring log fire whilst in summer we have a fantastic heated garden of
I was with a group of eight friends who dined at this pub a few days ago and we very much enjoyed the meal. The service was very good and we began with a number of pints of Tribute which was an excellent start. The menu is gastro pub which contained some unusual combinations of meat and vegetables but certainly when the food came it was beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked.Seating is a bit cramped but there is no doubt that certainly on the evening we went, it was doing very good business. Despite having lived in St Albans for nearly forty years, I had never had a drink or a meal here, but would certainly come again.
