We are a traditional English country Inn with restaurant located in the picturesque village of Shincliffe, only one and a half miles from the centre of Durham City and Durham University. Originally a coaching Inn dating back to 1724 the Seven Stars Inn is
Fortunately the chef and some of the servers who worked for the previous owners remain so the standard of the food is unchanged and the old staff are friendly. However, the new bar manager does not offer any pleasantries nor acknowledge repeat visits which contrasts badly with the warm welcome we had bwcome used to. Disappointing.I'm very sorry to hear your visit was a disappointing one. Particularly as depending on the night of your visit it could be me personally that let you down. I apologise unreservedly either way and would like to offer you either a couple of drinks on the house or a bottle of wine should you visit us again.Kind Regards

What a find. Away for a couples weekend from Nottinghamshire and booked a table for 6. The experience was so beautiful, we booked the following night too (last night). We would certainly advise visiting the restaurant if you havenât been there before. The food was amazing AND reasonably priced, the staff were faultless and the atmosphere just made the evening(s). Weâll be back

The Fox Cub forms an integral part of Durham Gate in Spennymoor, an exciting mixed use regeneration scheme. Being just seven miles from the historical city of Durham, weâd like to entice you to try our great destination pub. We provide excellent hospitali
Weâve been eating here all the years itâs been open, honestly, to begin with it was great, a favourite of ours, as a family and as a couple I couldnât recommend it enough. Just before the refurb we stopped attending as often and after with the carvery option we attended at-least once a month if not every other. A couple of weeks ago weâd entered just before 8, it wasnât until we paid and got to the carvery station and asked if they were replenishing stock that we were told they were closing it at 8, without complaining the staff member herself did, it wasnât advertising as closing early, only as all day...Tonight we went, choosing this over another favourite for prices to be raised £1 (not the end of the world) but to raise pricing and to remove an offering, no mashed potatoes - only available on a weekend and flat puddings... as a carvery without the staple offering atleast I definately wonât be returning. Let down once too often. And I certainly wouldnât recommend it to anyone, if I didnât have to rate atleast a star. I wouldnât.Hi scjamesuk, Thank you for taking the time to leave us some feedback from your visit.I'm sorry to hear you were left disappointed by your recent visit. With regards to mashed potato, we offer this on the carvery on a Saturday and Sunday, however we underdsand that guests may be disappointed by this as it was previously offered daily. Therefore, we are happy to prepare some fresh from the kitchen for no extra charge. Simply speak to a member of the team who will be happy to help. Our carvery is avalible daily from 12pm-8pm and our main menu runs from 12pm-10pm (other than a Sunday when we stop serving at 9pm. We apologise if this caused any confusion as we weren't closing early during your visit, these are our serving times every day. You are correct in the fact that our 2 meals for £10 menu went up to 2 meals for £11 a couple of months ago (making 2 medium plate carverys £5.50 rather than £5). Other than this slight increase we have ran the same menu with the same prices since early last year (£6.49 for one meduim plate carvery).I hope that you can accept our apologies and you decide to give us another chance in the future.Kind Regards, Team Fox Cub

The Black Horse Inn , friendly, family-run, village pub that dates back to 1867. Situated in Tudhoe Spennymoor, on the outskirts of Durham City. A traditional pub that offers amenities including complementary Wi-Fi pool table, darts, multi screens showing
Tried the Pittmanâs grill following its relatively recent modernisation. Room tastefully decorated and now managed by Monica. This Polish born lady really knows her stuff. After a few visits you are warmly welcomed by her and feel appreciated. She has improved the menu, the quality of the food by hiring a new chef, which turns out to be her husband. Food is always good quality and there are different offers nearly every night. The best offer is the two for one grill night on a Wednesday night but best to book a table for this. There is also a 48oz steak challenge if you eat in an hour itâs free. Another offer is free deserts with a meal on a Friday. Service can be a bit slow at times but not so bad to irritate you. We have also tried Sunday lunch and the quality of the food especially the beef or pork was excellent. So well done Mon and her team for reinvigorating this local hostelry.

5 of us went on the spur of the moment and we were glad we did. It was 7.30 on a Monday night and plenty of tables free. I think people eat here early as only a couple of people came in after us. I had lager and it was good. The service is very friendly, informal and helpful. We all had chicken in one form or another and they were all very very tasty. The portions are big and you get loads of really nice chips. I was the only one to eat it all and I was stuffed. The staff are happy to get your drinks at the bar if you would like them to. The place used to be The Greyhound pub, but had the restaurant built on the back a few years ago. It didn't look as nice as it is now. Just over £100 for 5 big main courses and 13 drinks. I'd go back any time.

Checked on here first for reviews before visiting and had high hopes based on other reviews. But felt massively let down for the price. Sunday roast was bland, not even salt and pepper added enough flavour. Toby Carvery provides a better lunch. Positive was good gravy and large portion sizes, food served well within 10 minutes of ordering. Ordered a cheesecake and not sure where the cheese was, or how long it had been there for as the kinder bueno pieces in it left the sensation of a slug being in my dessert, didnât finish that either. Wonât return.

We celebrated my son's first birtday and christening at the Green Tree and it was wonderful. The food was delicious and all our guests commented on how much they enjoyed it. We had lots of help setting the room up and everything was taken care of so that we had a special day. I cannot reccomend highly enough.
