An independent hotel and restaurant in the glorious Hertfordshire countryside, The Airman at Meppershall is an idyllic dining getaway mere miles from the sprawls of Luton and Bedford. Classically styled in keeping with its idyllic location, The Airman is
We stayed at the Airman for two nights, visiting our daughter who is based in the area. On arrival there was plenty of parking spaces available and we were met by the owner on reception (Roy) who welcomed us and advised on the facilities available. The room we had was certainly not modern but we didnât book a Premier inn so was more or less what we expected. The room was spacious, clean with a comfy bed. The bathroom was adequate for our needs with plenty of tea/coffee available. The room was very warm and in fact the wife turned the radiator off.The bar area is lovely with friendly staff (Sam , Wendy). We ate in the hotel on our first night and the food was excellent, both in taste and presentation. On our second night we dined out with our daughter and returned to the hotel to find a 40th birthday party in full swing. This didnât impact on our time in the bar but when we retired to bed 1230am the noise was a little loud below us. Once the music stopped 1am) and the guests had finally returned to their rooms all was peaceful again. One of the most enjoyable aspects of our stay was a long conversation with the owner (Roy) who is a very interesting, intelligent and friendly host. This hotel is certainly not the Ritz but it is one we will be returning to in February.Thank you for your kind review. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Warm night, so chose this pub for supper. Beautiful old pub inside and out. Large garden. Staff friendly and efficient. Menu simple with plenty of choice. Thoroughly enjoyed the scotch eggs for starter, and the burger with chips full of excellent quality ingredients and well prepared. Juicy but not sloppy, and decent bun that held everything together without disintegrating. All food clearly freshly prepared with care. Will return regularly.

Up to the area again and stayed for three nights at the Green Man. A nice venue, very welcoming and helpful. The room was small but comfortable and the shower was excellent!.Breakfast was impressive with plentiful food and beverages. Dinner was very good and of a reasonable price. All in all a very pleasant stay.

As soon as we walked in we were greeted by staff, asked where we would like to sit and given plenty of time. The menu is exciting, every mouthful delicious. It caters for everyone. Banoffee cheesecake was a very good sized portion and extremely tasty. I didn't have an alcoholic drink but I am sure the quality is very high. The staff were attentive and chatty and I found the whole experience wonderful.

We decided to give this local pub a 'go' for Sunday lunch. We were not disappointed. There was a choice of 3 roasts, good sized servings of meat and ample well cooked veg and yorkshire puddings. The new managers are working hard to change the image of this pub and they are succeeding. We plan to return again. It is certainly family friendly at Sunday lunchtime.

Situated on the B659 in High Street at Henlow with easy access from Junction 10 off the A1. This pretty pub with its picturesque garden is full of traditional character and the perfect place to eat, drink and relax.
We visited the Crown today for lunchas hadn't been there for a few monthsI ordered a Smoked salmon wrapped flat breadThe wrap looked very nice and full of filling but on opening it to add mayonnaise I was surprised to see only a couple of small pieces of salmon lots of cucumber and "leaves" and very thin scrape of creme fraiche -disappointing On paying the bill I did mention the lack of salmon and the bill was very slightly reducedAlso incredible that they no longer serve Chardonnay by the glass only selling a whole bottle!Strange way to run a bar as Chardonnay is a very popular drink!Yet again have to say we will not return for a while in the hope they can improve!Apologies your comments noted.

Nice Local village pub. Friendly welcome although not sure where to sit us for dinner, in the restaurant or bar, we opted for the bar. We hadn't made a reservation. Good beer on point. Good wine selection. Nice atmosphere and friendly waitress service.Food was your typical pub grub, satisfying and tasty. We would return.
