The Galway Arms, both a family run, and friendly, pub that has been an integral part of the community of Retford since the 18th century. We pride ourselves on serving all generations of the community, from our Live music events every Friday and Saturday n
Only called in for drinks but what a lovely atmosphere. Felt very welcome from the off. Good choice of drinks with cask choices a bonus. Good outside seating area with a fair sized car park. Too far to drive to be a regular for me unfortunately, shame!! wish this was my local!

Great Pizza, well kept beer, wine has certainly improved over the last few years. Great landlord and landlady, have done the village proud over summer with events and expansing food menu. We are sorry to see them leave but hope the newcomers keep up the good work.Mrs B,Thank you for your kind review. We'll be sorry to leave as we've been so lucky to have so many great customers, but we've met the new landlord and we're confident you'll be in safe hands. We look forward to having a pint on the 'other side' of the bar.Karen and Paul

Now under new management from September 2017, following a full refurbishment. We serve fantastic homemade food 7 days a week and also Sunday lunches. Amongst other drinks, we offer a choice of 8 cask ales, craft gins, cocktails and freshly ground coffees.
We met up with 23 relatives, some in Retford all weekend, others visiting for the day. One waitress was on her first day and made a few mistakes, but we were served mainly by a brilliantly attentive young lady who was delightful, despite being rushed off her feet. (Another party of similar size was in another room.)My ham hock terrine was, dare I say, too much food for a starter, though the chef's chutney which accompanied it was utterly delicious! Salmon was too well done for my taste.Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are pleased that you enjoyed it and hope to see you all again soon.

We visited recently for a birthday meal with family. The menu was extensive, varied and appealing making it difficult to choose. The smoked salmon souffle was devine as was the fish pie. The other dishes were equally enjoyed by everyone. Service was extremely efficient considering how busy it was and we would certainly recommend a visit both from a gastro experience and good value. Thank you. We will be back

We visit on a regular basis mid week and weekends. The Sunday lunch is a must but the weekday menu is super too. Sometimes the specials are too âspecialâ for me. Pigeon was on the menu tonight which I defo wouldnât go for. I would recommend that they add halloumi fries to their sides hello, thank you for your comments. its wonderful to see people making our pub a regular stop on any day! I can appreciate your comments on our specials, somethings aren't for everyone.. but we'd always encourage people to try- you might be surprised! thank you, & look forward to seeing you soon!-Bry

The Chequers Inn reopened on 19th February 2016 following an extensive quarter-of-a-million pound refurbishment completed by the Pub People Company. The pub has been transformed both inside and outside and also introduced a brand new menu as the fifth pub
Booked a table for 6:30 pm & turned up on time to be seated in the upstairs bar area.Unfortunately a largish family group were adjacent with an unruly child who insisted on screaming loudly. Asked to be seated elsewhere but the restaurant appeared full downstairs as well. On the point of cancelling our booking & going elsewhere but the bar manager quietly said the group would be finishing up shortly which they did.Ordered our meals & managed have a conversation between ourselves without the background din. Why parents don't check their misbehaving kids baffles me.Anyway we enjoyed our food in a calmer environment. We have been here several times in the past & not had the said experience before. Large fish & chips not available unfortunately. The maitre'd was very good in his manner which helped although the meals were a little slow arriving.Hi Tynemouth123Thank you for taking the time to post your thoughts and comments. Iâm glad the service & food was enjoyed as that is what our product is. Sad to hear other guests noise and children hampered your visit, but looks like efforts were made to rectify for which I am pleased.I hope you continue to enjoy and can review us with top marks next timeRegardsJamie

Nestled comfortably in the small rural village of Sutton cum Lound a few miles north west of Retford is the The Gate Inn, a quintessential country pub and restaurant dishing up a hearty seasonal food menu alongside a carefully selected choice of cask ales
I cannot rate this pub/restaurant highly enough. We saw the amazing beer garden whilst passing and stopped for a drink. Loved it so much we came back the following evening for a meal. Extremely doggie friendly (we took our 12 week old springer). Food great - all homemade. Decor amazing. Staff so friendly and helpful. Just wish we werenât on holiday and it was nearer to home! Visit you wonât be disappointed!

Brewery tap, Gin Library and proper Home made food sourcing totally locally ingredients. Eight cask ales and ten keg products, great wines and over 170 world gins ! Dogs are very, very welcome and overnight camper vans are permitted!
What a find! We have a motorhome and our 'camp at a pub somewhere' book highlighted this cracking place. We rang to ask if we could park up for the night and Dave, confirmed it was more than OK. Great ales and several ciders on offer too. The food is first class and not priced silly. The staff clearly know they are part of a first class outfit as they reflect that in their service. Locals are dead friendly and within half an hour we felt like 'neighbours'. This place is a gem.Hallo wie geht's dir ?It was an absolute pleasure to meet you both at the weekend and thank you so much for your kind words. It was nice reminiscing about Simpsonâs at Hazel Grove. The support we get from both locals and visitors is incredibly humbling. Hopefully we will see you again soon ! David
