The place almost looks like an old tiny house from the outside. However upon walking in, it is bigger. The staff was really friendly and down to earth in their personalities. The food you could tell was homemade for two reasons. First on the menu some items it stated would take 45 minutes for. Also we waited a while. The food was worth the wait though. We got a large pizza and a hoagie to split. And all the food was good and large in size. The prices were very reasonable as well. The only downside is that there isnt a lot of parking.

The acoustics are the only problem at Bigham Tavern. When it is crowded, as is common nearly every evening, the noise level is such that carrying on a conversation becomes a shouting match. But of course the crowds mean the food is good, which it is. The addition of healthy alternatives to the otherwise heavy Pittsburgh menu is highly appreciated.

I went here for a dinner in the middle of the summer on a weekday evening. It was raining quite heavily, so Market Square wasn't that busy; however, Winghart's (downstairs) was pretty crowded when I walked in. The place was small (narrow, but typical for the Market Square area). There wasn't much place to sit except at the bar downstairs, but I was able to immediately sit down upstairs. There was some seating outside on the balcony upstairs, and a downstairs patio area, but both were unoccupied due to the weather. Although the atmosphere is a bit different on both floors, both floors had the same menu.My server, who was also the bartender for the upstairs area, was prompt and very friendly. The drink menu was unique and varied (with, as the name suggests, a couple of different good sounding whiskey-based drinks). There was also a great selection of beer on tap.I ended up with one of their burgers, which was very good, and a very good cocktail. Overall, this was a great meal, and I hope to return.

While visiting Pittsburgh we decided to go for a morning walk to the North Shore. Our morning walk turned into a late morning happy hour when we passed by this place just after 10am. Really cool environment, great outdoor seating and great beer. Itâs amazing how much stuff is in that little area now. Great bar, will return when Iâm in the area. Definitely not a bad spot to sit outside at the bar and watch a college football game on a Saturday.

We (two middle aged married couples) had the poor experience of choosing this restaurant for dinner during a recent weekend trip to Pittsburgh on Saturday September 28th. The restaurant itself is large and has an initial cool factor upon entering. That slowly faded over the course of the dining experience. The waiter (David) gave the fake outward appearance of being attentive which deteriorated after taking our orders.I ordered a draft beer which was brought to me about 20 minutes after the other's drink orders of iced tea were served. I know it comes from the bar and not the main kitchen but still... The food was mediocre including their "famous" Seven Onion Soup which we found to be watered down and lacking of its main ingredient, onions. We shared a Buffalo Cauliflower appetizer which I must say we did enjoy. I had ordered the Chicken Jambalaya and asked specifically if the dish can be made spicy hot and not just what an average person might consider as spicy. I was assured by David they can add spices to it and "I got you." To my surprise, not only was the dish served at luke-warm temperature but the means to make the dish spicier was to add Frank's Red Hot sauce which was brought to our table with the dish. I personally don't think Frank's is that hot but so be it.My wife's Shrimp and Grits were so bland and tasteless that even after seasoning she said she'd rather not consume the calories on something with unappealing taste. I won't provide the other couples opinions on their behalf but summarize that they agreed with our overall assessment of the food quality and service.During the meal I ordered another draft beer and waited again over 20 minutes for delivery. Throughout the entire dining experience, NONE of our empty plates and silverware were removed from the table. This includes the soup bowls, appetizer plates, meal plates, empty glasses, etc. David came over and brought the bill to the table. My wife wanted to try a desert so we asked that to be ordered and paid for separate from the bill that was just delivered. We had totaled our bill to include a greater than 18% tip even though the food and service was mediocre. Several times David would come over to other dining tables he served and we thought for sure he'd pick up and remove some of the empty plates.... Nope! At one point as a joke and not so subtle hint, I even neatly stacked all the empty plates and placed them on the floor next to our table to clear some space. I ended up picking them back up after 5 minutes and placed them back on the table since not a single server took notice or cared. After waiting a reasonable time for my wife's desert, I decided to get up and find out what the delay could be for a slice of cake. As I walked toward the kitchen, David approached with the cake. I mentioned that it took quite a while (25 minutes?) and we were getting ready to cancel it. I also mentioned the table was full of empty plates despite several times servicing our area. He seemed miffed and curtly said he was busy with customers and working as fast as he could. He then challenged me to talk to his manager if I was dissatisfied. So of course I took his offer to speak to his manager. He then surprisingly turned around with my wife's cake and started to return to the kitchen. Incredulously I asked him about my wife's cake order and he said his manager will deliver it and continued to walk away.Without belaboring this too much further, a few minutes later Sarah, the manager, came to our table with the cake and got a run down of the events we experienced. She expressed her apologies and mentioned she would look at our bill and see what she could do to make things right. We mentioned we're from out of town and just visiting for the weekend. As stated, we already filled out the tip and signed our meal bill when we had asked David to add the dessert separately. Sarah came back with a few Church Works beer glasses and discount coupons for future visits. She also did not charge us for the dessert. We just laughed amongst ourselves since we did not intend to advertise her establishment with the beer glasses, told her we are only visiting, not from the area and since we don't have any future plans to return to Pittsburgh, have no use of the coupons. She said maybe we can give them to someone else. Too funny. We did just that to a group of folks outside the restaurant after telling them our experience and wished them better luck.Good morning,I am so very sorry - your experience is not what we want for our guests at all. I have spoken with our General Manager and Executive Chef and they send their apologies as well. We will speak with the staff and work hard to ensure this does not happen again. I thank you for letting us know what happened and would like it if you could email me with your information whenever it is convenient.Best,Patti Terrano-GoykeThe Church Brew Works3525 Liberty AvenuePittsburgh, PA [email protected]

One of our most favorite restaurants in the city is this local neighborhood mainstay. Great German food. The beer selection is great...try the sampler. If you like your potato pancakes one the "more done" side...ask for Sarah cakes (they make them the regular way and then they deep fry them for a min or two. It make them a little crisper (not over crispy) and more done inside. All other German favorites too!!! They use quality meats so everything is very good.If you are visiting and are on the north side...definitely look this one up. You cannot go wrong! We have never tried it, but we hear that the Sunday Brunch is outstanding.

This place is a good place on a great strip of establishments. Many âheadwichesâ which are large sandwiches. I had the Fat Italian and it was loaded with ham, salami, capicola, and crumbled sausage with tomatoes, lettuce, red onions, and cut up boiled eggs. WOW! Large selection of drinks that the establishment brews and great atmosphere. Small wait and great service. Bring an appetite and you will enjoy. The establishment has shirts and keepsakes to remember your visit.

Tuesday is Bacon Night.
We arrived during early during happy hour for dinner so most menu apps were $5 and there were drink specials as well. We had the calamari (great), Lobster/crab Mac & cheese (phenomenal - easily shared between 2 or 3 people), Carnitas Mac & cheese (awesome - also extremely huge), the Totchos (good, not great) & Wings (great)! The inside of the restaurant was dark & dim & loud. We werenât crazy or sure about the vibe, but weâre from out of town, so it might be a great place for locals. The staff was great, the food came out quickly, the prices matched the quantity & quality of food. I only wish there would be more options for Mac & cheese sizes at lower prices.

Outstanding Irish pub food. Tons of flavor. Huge portions. The drink menu is fantastic and the prices are amazing. The sausage rolls were a great start. The Guinness stew and burger were the entreeâs we had and they were outstanding. The waiter was so friendly and helpful. Really made the meal enjoyable.

Stopped here with my husband after a visit to the art museum (it's diagonally across the street)I had the California salad. My husband had the onion soup burger (yes, there is such a thing). Both meals were outstanding.Noise level is manageable, good mix of young and old...couples and families. Extensive menu that ranges from veggie stuff to meat and potatoes.
