Highland Perthshire places some of Scotland’s most spectacular scenery within easy reach of both Glasgow and Edinburgh, and Pitlochry is the most geared-up base from which to enjoy it. It’s been a bustling mountain resort since the railways arrived in 1863, and these days manages to be both a cozy favorite for tourists who enjoy browsing in its woolen mills and taking in the repertory of plays at its famous Festival Theatre, and a magnet for adrenalin junkies in search of bungee jumping, canyoning, tubing and white water rafting adventures. Visitors of any age will be intrigued by the Pictish carvings on the huge Dunfallandy stone at nearby Ballinluig and, after a bracing mountain walk or visit to the famous salmon ladder, adults can enjoy a warming dram of malt whiskey after a tour at one of the two local distilleries, Edradour and Blair Athol.

We were so disappointed with the chicken curry which lacked flavour. In fact the chicken tasted more like soya or Quorn meat!! No papadums and no mango chutney etc. There is a lovely diner next door that has a great menu and is much cheaper. Thatâs where we recommend is a great place to eat. Thanks for your review, your comments have been passed to our cook for future reference, please do get in touch to arrange a return visit to demonstrate that we are listening to our guests feedback.Best WishesTommy

McKays Pitlochry is a traditional Scottish pub and live entertainment venue serving the finest local produce, ales and premium spirits as well as showcasing the best local, national and International acts. It is open from noon each day till late every nig
McKays, overall, is spot on......comfortable, cosy, friendly....lovely place to be!! However, the food prices are way too high for what you actually get e.g. we were there this weekend, looking forward to having dinner. The service was perfectly fine and the starters of Haggis Bon bons and Breaded Camembert were tasty enough, but we both ordered the Scampi for our main, which at nearly £15 each, was ridiculously high for the fact that both the scampi and the chips very much seemed to be just out of a bag and not very well cooked. We love Pitlochry and have no doubt we will be back at McKays, but probaby just for drinks only.

Sunday roast disappointing, overpriced, portions are small, advertised with "all the trimmings" ... what trimmings? They consist of a sort of ratatouille of vegetables that do NOT belong with a roast. And no gravy!! Lovely snug place, friendly staff, let down by poor food.

We were on holiday in Pitlochry for the week and went to Drummonds twice the scampi and prawn marie was to die for. My husband had chicken stuffed with haggis which he says was amazing. We followed with sticky toffee pudding with custard mmmmmm yummy. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful and the service was very quick. All cooked fresh as ordered. Well worth a visit. See you next year.

Having been here once before we thought we would give it a try. Staff friendly and helpful and the restaurant was in a good clean condition. Slightly busy due to some American tourists but the staff appeared to cope well. The food on the other hand was not great. The game pie was over done and tasty only of red wine or something similar, the veg. was only blanched and rubbery at the same time. The 2 x lamb roasts were like leather and full of greasy fat, again the veg.was poor. The desserts we had were the treacle tart and they must have been the smallest portion on the planet.I wanted to complain but my wife and her friend refused to allow me tp that. Not recommended and we will not be back

Booking is advisable for this popular restaurant which offers seasonal dishes and offering Scottish produce. Located on the banks of the River Tay there is plenty to watch indoors and on the ever-changing and dramatic waters. We enjoyed the salmon tartare and game terrine for starters followed by the chicken burger and roast of the day. We were tempted by the desserts on offer but seriously could not do them justice. Such a lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, cosy interiors and plenty of other points of interest within the vicinity. We will certainly be back when we visit the area same time next year.
