Went in for a drink expecting a quiet pub, it was far from quiet , the pub was absolutely packed predominantly with guys, the six nations rugby had just been on so presumably this was the reason. The bar staff were efficient and pleasent , pointing out a quieter area for us to sit once others had vacated there seat. This is when the problem started.... when we were moving tables , my mum who is 78 with Alzheimerâs walked straight into a little black dog that was laying in shadow between tables , she went flying into the table and the dog was yelping ,and the dog went to bite mum ( the owner of the dog did apologise) mum was naturally distressed and unclear what had happened.... before we left some one else came in carrying 2 small dogs and just put them down and they were left just wandering around.. I am absolutely not anti dogs but do thing if pubs are to allow dogs they should not be left to wander around or lay in walk through areas between tables etc. Also there was no distinction from allowing dogs into areas were food was served, so we decided not to eat. So for us we most certainly would not be returning.Hi Jacqueline, we are so sorry that you had a bad experience at The Lord Nelson. On the day in question, as you say, we were extremely busy and found you a quieter place to sit. Although we are a dog friendly pub, we do not allow dogs in what is mostly used as a dining area, however we were not serving food on this day due to Harry being on annual leave (there was a sign on the entrance explaining that food was not being served). However we were offering snacks to eat around the pub to the people who had come to watch the rugby and football, at their request. We apologise for any distress to you and your family and please rest assured that when the kitchen is open dogs are not allowed into the dining area x

Booked a table for seven for a birthday celebration at 1.30. Drinks order taken straight away. Someone finally came to take the food order 10 minutes late. We waited and waited for the food to arrive, after 45 minutes asked the girl in charge when are we going to eat? She replied that it was being plated up and they were just finishing a large party. After another 40 minutes we still had no food!!! After words with the same girl again food finally arrived 5 minutes later. We were not the only people complaining as we could hear other people on adjacent tables who were also not served. We live locally but will never go here again. Shocking service, no excuses about large parties, should have been told of this on booking or at least when we arrived we could have been informed of the delay and gone elsewhere. Wish we hadDear Customer,Thank you for taking the time to write a review, we are very disappointed to hear your feedback. During your last visit (Sunday lunchtime) we were experiencing a high volume of guests which, quite naturally, slightly extends food waiting times (hence the note on the back of our menu). Our servers are experienced working during busy shifts. We really do understand your frustration, which is why we compensated it on the day. Also, just to let you know the young girl you are referring to was very upset following her shift and discussed her concerns with us.

We had this pub/restaurand recommended to us and wr decided to give it a go. We were not disappointed. The staff were very welcoming and the menue had lots of choice. - They cater very well for a gluten free diet.. As it was Sunday we opted for the sunday lunch menu. There was an offer for two courses and it was more than ample. We had a glass of wine and a beer and it was excellent at a reasonable price. We will certainly return again soon. My only complaint as with many establishments was the loud music. It was so bad that it was difficult to hold a conversation - you don't need it!! If it is like that next time it will be our last visit.Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, we look forward to seeing you again soon. The Hunters

Turned up on a Friday sunny evening, the outdoor seating area was full of families. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. We had checked prior to arriving that dogs are allowed as we wanted to walk through the local park and stop off for some food. They openly agreed that dogs are more than welcome, even within the bar area which is nice to know for future visits. We ordered our meal and it arrived quickly even though it was busy. We ordered a starter from the specials menu, ribs which were delicious. We both ordered the Rag pudding for our main and have to say this was the best steak pudding Iâve eaten. The chips taste like a cross between roast potatoes and chips. Really crispy and tasty. Mains are around £10 and starters around £5 which is good value as the portions are what youâd expect for pub food. Will definitely return!

We have only just started going into Gables, itâs a pleasant atmosphere and staff very welcoming. It is popular for food although we havenât eaten there.......why?.....the toilets are not clean. You might think thatâs an odd thing to say, but having run pubs ourselves, I always think that if the toilets are dirty and everyone sees them, then what is the kitchen like, where the public canât see . There might have been a valid reason for the state of them that particular day, but it did put me off. Good for drinks though

First visit since the refurbishment, to be honest looks much the same and the menu had not changed. Had a lovely table in the sun and ordered food via the app. Served well and was tasty, will probably go back but probably not rush back.

Visited for lunch and was warmly greeted by interactive staff. Very large menus full of choices of food be it sandwiches, pies, fish or meat with healthy options if needed. Our meals were freshly made and well presented, full of taste with large portions. Overall service, food and drinks were spot on and can recommend the curried chicken. pie as something different.

We visited the Mediterranean on the recommendation of my dad, who had been several times before, to celebrate his birthday.Gorgeous setting and lovely comfortable atmosphere. On arrival our table had banners and table decorations....a very thoughtful touch! The menu was really interesting and had lots of choice. The food was amazing...very generous portion sizes and lovely presentation. My chicken tagine was packed with flavour and succulent chicken. The midweek offers sound like really excellent value for money. We will definitely return and recommend to friends and family.
