A pub/restaurant with a large carpark, which is easily accessed. A smallish eating area in a pub environment, The staff are friendly and attentive with cheery dispositions. A range of dishes are available. What we had to eat was well cooked and presented. A vairety of dishes, with a vegetarian meze to share as a starter. The halibut steak, Hunters chicken and wexford steak were excellent. The house wine, both red and white were a very good adjunct to the meals. The staff were obliging and nothing was too much trouble.

Visited here with family for a celebration. It was steak night when we got there, 6 of the party had steak and said it was very good. The other 2 had steak an ale pie, good pie, very tender steak, only criticism was the gravy was quite salty. Otherwise very good food quality. The establishment has been recently extended and decorated, which is very nicely done. Cracking view from inside and outside over Huddersfield and countryside beyond.

Sands House Pub and Restaurant. The very best of British pub classics and traditional Sunday Roasts all freshly cooked to order. Fantastic beer garden, 4 Yorkshire real ales, high quality wines and always a warm welcome.
We called in for lunch as a group of three adults & two children.Good menu with plenty of choice. There was an offer on for two meals for £13 which is excellent value given the quality of the food & the portion sizes.Children's menu also good & portion sizes generous.Service was also good, one of the meals came out wrong & the matter was dealt with well and an alternative meal brought to us very quickly. We've been here twice now in recent months & will definitely return.

Charming country pub now fully refurbished. Cosy atmosphere, great fresh food, exciting drinks list and warm hospitality. A Prime British Pub With A Continental Twist!
Very nice food, good service. Had sunday lunch, one beef and one veggie option. Really good quality meat and the veg Wellington was lovely too - although I'm not sure I'd call it a Wellington as it didn't have any pastry! Yorkshire's, potatoes and veg all well cooked. Desserts were a little disappointing imho but I'd defo return for the mains. Service good, not too pricey either.

As visitors, our Cousin from Slaithwaite took us there. My wife and i absolutely enjoyed ourselves and cannot complain about anything. There is good viewing from the Hotel. The toilets were the cleanest we came across while in England. Great variety of food and the Staff, well, I had great fun chatting with them. It was great to be able to talk as if we were part of the community and not as visitors from Australia. A week later, we took our Daughters who arrived and they had the same enjoyment we had, especially having the Stella on Tap. On behalf of my family, thanks for the great time and hope people go out of their way to drop in

Pub.The Sportsman takes the classic British Boozer and brings it bang up to date. With its beautiful Art Deco interior we've restored the original feature to their former glory. We won English Heritage Pub Design Awards in 2010. A great pub needs great be
We had a family Pie lunch here and it was superb. Started off badly, no Steak and All, No Mash potatoes. Got worse No Chips!!! Then we were informed that the potatoes had arrived and it would be 20 minutes. 30 minutes later the meals arrived and they were worth waiting for. Portions were good and hot, mushy peas and gravy excellent. For real ale drinkers there is a good choice and we were offered tasters. We will be back. Thank you.

Had a fantastic meal, all home cooked, high quality. We had the Ultimate Burger and Lasagne, homemade cheesecake for dessert. Really surprised at the quality, it is now on our very short list of places to eat in the Huddersfield area, there are so few places offering good quality, homemade reasonably priced food with excellent service and so pleased to find one to add to our list. We will be regulars, staff are great. The beer is also very good.

Now, a bit of Miz Bubblechucks history! I remember this pub first began offering food many decades ago. The pub was run by a very nice couple back then and it was extremely popular. People used to come from miles around to eat there when I was a girl. I would not go there again. The menu has far too many dishes on it to be freshly cooked. And there are three pies offered as main courses! The menu had me burying my head in my hands and wondering why they couldn't do something more original. Does every pub have to have chicken liver pate, halloumi this, Thai that, and something with "jerk" added to it? This place could do better. It could showcase real Yorkshire food. It needs Gordon Ramsay.Dear Miz Bubblechucks.Iâm trying to understand the mindset in which this review is written as you seem to have judged us on how you remember the pub decades ago. Decades before the current owner took it on and that doesnât seem very fair to me.Your review is purely based on assumptions and personal preferences and there is no indication as to whether you actually ate with us after your disappointment with our menu offerings?I can assure you that our menu is most definitely freshly cooked, something we could have told you had we been asked before you left your review. You mention about various menu items that you have seen elsewhere. If you have seen them on various menus then you would have to assume they are good sellers and are in demand surely? We have lots of traditional pub favourites on our menu, including the 3 homemade pies that you mention. We have steak and ale pie, chicken ham and leek pie, cheese and onion pie, traditional haddock and chips, rib eye steak with hand cut chunky chips, creamy garlic mushrooms, gammon with egg and chips, homemade soup, homemade pate as well as lots of other dishes we put on our specials board. I like to think they are classed as âYorkshireâ enough for most folk! The reason we have other dishes on there is purely because they sell well. We have had them as previous specials and added them to the menu because they have proved so popular.Iâll pass this review on to our team of chefs and front of house team but unfortunately there is nothing that we can take from it to reflect and improve on as there is no mention of anything apart from highlighting your preferences as to what you personally think should be omitted from our menu.It would be an honour if Mr Ramsey should pay us a visit soon. He is a massive advocate for homemade fresh food, plus he loves traditional pub food and Thai dishes too! Maybe a man of his experience can give us some better feedback we can use to better improve our offerings.Kind regards,The Scape House Team
