We stumbled across this restaurant by accident and it had just reopened after a refurb with anew menu.Service was friendly and atmosphere relaxed but definitely felt more high end. The menus is on the pricier side but the food reflects this. The fish I had was cooked well and enjoyed that the menus tells you were the fish was purchased. My fish fish was £20 but there are some cheaper options around £13-15. For pudding weâd recommend the lemon meringue! Delicious. On the way out the bar area had filled up and seemed like a really nice atmosphere. Start: Bread, chicken skewers Main: Pork Belly, Monk Fish. Desert: Brownie and lemon meringue. Would have liked a bit more bread for 4.50 and maybe some balsamic/oils but it was lovely.Final bill £70 inc two beers and apple juice.

Characterful country pub restaurant set in spacious grounds. Serving fresh food, cask ales and wine in a welcoming, atmosphere.
The food is good and well presented, but there was only the choice of two veggie mains. It was extremely busy but the service was excellent. The downside was that there were several small children on the next table running around and shouting. Not what you want on a Saturday night out with friends in a good restaurant.

Excellent value for money. Booked online for 3 at 19.00 hrs. We were given a choice of tables and drinks ordered. We skipped starters, and our mains were served in 20 mins! The rump steaks were good and so was the gammon. However there only seemed to be English mustard available if you didn't choose an additional sauce. The apple crumble was spot on!The manager and staff should be congratulated on their fast and efficient service. If I have to make one criticism, it would be that the Gents could do with a makeover! Thanks for taking the time to let us know how we did. We're glad to hear we delivered such a great experience. If there's anything further we can do for you, we are happy to help!

Ate here with a large family group on Sunday. Pub was nice enough and staff fine. I ordered the roast and although the portions were large and the meat OK, the Yorkshire was on the cold side and the crispy parsnips were over done. Funny choice of veg for this time of year. Others did report their choices were good though.

Speaking purely as a drinker in this 'pub', the service to drinkers is appalling, the staff are geared to prioritise diners and you can stand at a staff-free bar with many other customers, for several minutes. Once you are served, you can find a table covered in glasses, they are never collected by the staff and customers are forced to clear the tables themselves if they don't want to sit at a table cluttered with glasses and or plates. This is despite staff delivering food to tables and returning to the kitchen empty handed having walked past tables full of empty glasses etc. I attended a couple of weeks ago purely for a drink. However there was some kind of private function taking place and the bar area was pretty full with customers up to four deep at the bar. I soon found out why, there was only one, at most two people serving at any one time. I managed one drink then left. The function must have taken the management by surprise staff-wise!!Steve W, we're disappointed to hear of the negative experience you had at our location. We do have a wage budget that we have to work with, which sometimes makes it a little difficult. Ideally we would love to have more staff on duty, but this isn't always possible. Please reach out to us at 0151 648 2223 when you can so we can address this situation directly. Thank you and have a great day.

Beefeater opened their doors back in 1974, and were driven by a passion for glorious steak. Mouth-watering cuts at mouth-watering prices was their motto. Reassuringly nothing's changed, these things still drive them today and they always will. Beefeater b
This was a return visit after our previous good experience. I had booked but that was probably unnecessary on this occasion. We were shown to a table in the conservatory which is quiet and very airy. There are two menus at lunchtime but we all actually chose from the daytime saver menu. There is plenty of choice - something for eveyone's taste and pocket. I chose the Open Chicken Sandwich - strips of chicken breast, crispy bacon, tomato and mayonnaise on an open, warm ciabatta and served with skinny fries. The mains arrived fairly pronptly and were hot and tasty and for the £5 I had paid for mine - very good value for money. My partner had chosen the fish and chips (again £5) and the fish was huge! For dessert we all decided to choose the mini puds and coffee. I selected the lemon drizzle cake (new) and it was lovely and tasty and just enough after the main. The staff are friendly and efficient. Again another very good experience.

Donât often come here but about once or twice a year make the trip for a couples or family meal. Personally I like the food, service and the cost isnât ridiculous - thereâs just something intangible about the place that makes me give it 4 vs 5 starsDear daveys110,Thank you for taking the time to review us, if you do put your finger on whatever is that's losing us that fifth star please let us know.Kind regardsThe Devon Doorway

Have visited the Fox and Hounds on numerous occasions in the past. I'm quite a fan of this small group of venues which includes the Ship in Parkgate. Chose the F&H for Sunday lunch with my octogenarian parents and once again wasn't disappointed. Great menu suiting all age ranges and the Sunday lunch was especially tasty and good value. Portions are generous. Nice ambiance with modern openplan dining area mixing well with the old fashioned and original bar area which has been retained. Great choice of wine and beers also helpfulAll of the staff we met were very pleasant and helpful especially Bev who served us and who was a delight. We will definitely be back!
