Stayed here for one night - £80 b & b - lovely room with everything you could wish for - only slight draw back was the lack of shower power!Breakfast was good. Its is such a shame that the local community no longer have a pub they can walk too - for a small village it is a necessity.

A first visit for my husband and I to this pub, accompanied by 6 of our friends, all of who have eaten here several times previously. Your carvery was excellent, thank you. Meats and veggies nicely cooked, good quality, and served with a smile. Always appreciated! Beer well kept too. Pleasant atmosphere and quiet enough to have a conversation. I only have one gripe and that is very personal, but I mention it as I feel £4.50 was wasted. I myself had the so-called Apple Pie/custard. It was circle of puff-pastry, soggy, with a rather small amount of brown apple underneath. So heavily laced with Cinnamon, which I dislike, and I just could not eat it. (Perhaps amend your menu to include it has cinnamon content?) Sorry, but that is not a classic Apple Pie. Needless to say, it was still standing there when we left. Therefore a total waste of £4.50. Yes, I could have spoken up to staff, but did not wish to embarrass the elderly couple in our party who dine here regularly. We will visit again but ASK what a dessert contains the next time ... Thank you for a pleasant meal.Thank you for taking the time to write this review, totally agree with your comment about the pudding and will have that dealt with straight away, sorry we was unable to refund you for that on the day. We are pleased you had an overall pleasant experience.Kind regardsSue & Ian

The Huntsman and Hounds

We ate here as a family twice during a recent holiday locally as it was very convenient to the house. On both occasions the pub offered comfortable environment even if the decor is dated (I’d say 1989) but clearly is a hub for the locals to come in and out enjoy which gives it a busy and used feeling - which is what a local needs.Every meal that we ordered was just massive, and defeated everyone each and every time. The food is simple fair but well cooked with a broad menu of traditional pub grub. Even the healthy salads came out so big that a small family could survive 2 days on it.We did have to wait quite some time on both occasions, once early in the evening and then also later as well, so can assume that this is just the speed of the kitchen.Service is friendly and is kid friendly, but we did order a veggie curry and it came out as a Chicken version, so if you have any dietary requirements then I’d suggest being very clear, and then being clear again. The bar is busy and could benefit from another staff member to help speed things up, but overall we didn’t need feeding for a day afterwards and for the price it offers good value for money. Many thanks for your review, We are sorry you weren't 100% happy with your visit. We do provide large portions but can provide smaller ones on request. We also cater for all dietary requirements, on this occasion we are unsure why you would of recieved the wrong curry, but do apologise for the mix up. Please feel free to visit us again where I'm sure you will find it enjoyable.

I don't know how they keep up this standard but absolutely everything is good. Menus changed frequently and lovely Specials boards. If eating in the restaurant you need to book but the same standard is to be found in the bar areas. Definitely the best Italian food around in my opinion.

Staff not interested interested in customers. We booked a table for 8pm, they were about to close the kitchen and they made you feel it. They were more interested in having drinks with the locals. Terrine was dry. Steak was fatty. Onion marmelade an obvious easy garnish for all dishes. Would not recommend. Hello and thank you for your review. We entirely apologise if you felt the staff were not interested in you after your recent visit; I'm not sure what else Aimee, our lovely and very capable Assistant Manager who was serving you could have done to engage you any more - she tried for some time to have a conversation with you but with the limited English you spoke, it was pretty tricky for her. To suggest she was not interested is simply not true. The kitchen does close at 8pm and so we endeavour to get last food orders in at this time - we make no secret that 8pm is the cut-off on a Sunday. We know you were disappointed on booking because you couldn't have 9pm as first requested. All of our social media sites, website and notices on our doors all clearly state our food service times. We're somewhat at a loss to imagine why you wrongly think onion marmalade comes with everything, as it features on the burgers and on one starter (anyone who visits our website can see the menu online to verify this is the case) It's useful to readers to be factual with reviews. With regard to staff being 'more interested in having drinks with the locals', this is also nonfactual. You were served in a timely fashion by the crew who were working - the three people you saw sitting at the bar had already put in a hot, hectic 10 hour day and were off duty, relaxing at the bar and chatting with friendly customers, as is their absolute prerogative. We're not a big corporate chain that doesn't allow staff off-duty to have a drink at the bar - I am completely at ease with this happening and I'm delighted that they want to spend some of their own precious time socialising after having worked incredibly hard for the day. We're quite at ease with people having a life outside of work; it is allowed. Thanks for your comments regarding the steak though - we will speak with our butcher about it. If you had of let us know on your table checkback that there was an issue at the time, we could have easily resolved it, but clearly this was not to be, and it is quite impossible to put right retrospectively.Kind Regards,Kate, Owner.
