Pamela Behan and family welcome you to The Kings Arms Pub, situated in Bowness-on-Solway, Cumbria. Located at the western end of Hadrian's Wall, 15 miles along the Solway Coast from Carlisle. This is a cyclist, walkers and Bird-watchers paradise. The King
The King's Arms is a pub that offers traditional British pub fare along with good drinks and beers on tap. The steak and ale pie was delicious. The fish and chips are also recommended. The service can be a little slow as business can pick up quickly, but the staff is friendly. If you are in a hurry, this may not be your best option, but there are few choices of where to eat in Bowness. The food is definitely worth the wait. For those starting their trek along the Hadrian's Wall Path from Bowness, you can purchase a hiking passport here.

Just what you'd expect in a traditional pub - great food at reasonable prices. Staff were helpful and friendly and the service was excellent. Very big portion sizes and everything was homemade and fresh. We took our 1 year old son and a highchair was provided for us straight away along with toys to keep him entertained.I'd highly recommend the sweet chilli chicken!

we are situated on the beautiful Solway coast, an area of outstanding natural beauty. we try to keep our supplies local when we can. haafnet fishing in the summer brings fresh Solway salmon, sea trout and sea bass. we have a wealth of local wildlife, a va
Come here to re live the traditional pub atmosphere which is gradually becoming a thing of the past with all the new trendy wine bars. Good food and friendly first class service. If you like real ale it is kept very well, the old Speckled Hen was my choice an excellent one at that. Being a Camra member for many years I know a lot about beer. Go and visit this lovely pub and enjoy a hearty meal and a drink maybe a chat to the bar staff or the locals they are very friendly.Thank you for your kind words about my pub we look forward to seeing you again.Mark

The Drovers Rest is a traditional English country pub, situated near the Hadrian's Wall walking and cycling routes, and not far from Burgh Marsh and the Solway Coast. The building itself is over 400 years old, and has a large beer garden to the rear used
We were visiting the area and had tried to get in somewhere else for dinner but they were fully booked. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise because we found the Drovers. By contrast to the other place which had been recently "refurbished" (i.e. de-characterised and sanitised, the Drovers was a breath of fresh air - characterful and buzzing with gemuetlichkeit. No wonder they've won so many pub of the year awards.

My wife & I have been here twice since the refurbishment & the new management,& have found the service, the food & the beers were of a very high standard. When we called again last week, we were welcomed by the owner & the young girl ( who does the nails etc) who remembered us from our previous visits, we were shown to our table & given the menu's to browse. After a short while our order was taken, ( I had the belly pork & my wife had the steak pie) the belly pork was absolutely delicious, & my wife also enjoyed the steak pie. We had the Bread & butter pudding which was really very tasty & coffee afterwards. We were chatting to the landlady after the meal & suggested that they re- introduce the 'Pensioners Special', & she said they were updating the menu that evening & would consider this option, ( I hope they include this option, as the food is sufficient sized portions for the older client) & more affordable. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind paying for good food, BUT would call more often if this option was made available.

Recently reopened after many years out of service. Overlooks River Esk adjacent to the M74, but not likely to be too easily found by people who are unaware of the road parallel to the motorway, which can only be accessed from Gretna to the north or Carlis
Where to start, The large carvery was disappointing with very little meat portions and tasteless meat, the veg was a very poor selection and had no taste (to be honest I've had better school dinners a long time ago).Kids chicken nuggets were very spicy and they would not eat them. The Cumberland sausage was just ordinary sausage.I wouldn't recommend this to place to an enemy. Needless to say we won't ever return.

Before you even walk into the front door you are greeted by a recently totally refirbished hotel with new paintwork, gardens and Stephenson's rocket like locomotive. On entering the hotel the immediate impact is of elegance. Fantastic fit-out recreating a train setting decorated in tartan. Modern bar is highlighted with an inbuilt light display and the tv when not on doubles as a mirror. Now the best part, the food! Head chef, Sam served under Heston Blumfeld and it shows. The menu has something to please everyone. I had the swordfish and my wife had duck breast (the jus was intense and sweet). Presentation and taste was worthy of world class recognition. The raspberry brulee was outstanding (as good as any worlclass restaurant I have visited in the last 40 years) and the apple and blackberry crumble was to die for.If this place was transported into a major city it would truly deserve a Michelin hat or Rosette. Fantastic place, food, ambiance and staff. Extremely well priced (you would pay double for the same in London). Surely the head chef, Sam will be deserving of recognition soon.If you are driving anywhere to/from Scotland this is worth the detour.

Truly awful. Hopelessly disorganised.Slowest ever service.Food not bad but didn't warrant the one hour 20 minute wait.It wasn't exactly complicated cuisine. The bar next door was full of rowdy drunks. Are you serious, all our checks are time stamped and we would consider 20 minutes a long time, as for the bar being full of rowdy drunks, we do have clientele than like to laugh and enjoy themselves but rowdy drunks, most are self employed local businessmen and we do not attract the local youth. We do occasionally get a noisy wedding party in the bar, but we cant put people out for celebrating.

Great pub just opposite the Gateway Village shopping centre. Lovely day we walked down from Smiths Hotel for a couple of drinks before my wedding. 6 of us there, sitting outdoors having our first drink, then the guys went inside for a couple of drinks and pool competition. Lovely service, good prices, nice and tidy.
