After a recommendation from a friend we decided to give the court inn a go as a birthday treat for my wife. A varied menu with plenty of choice from pub classics to daily specials. We all ordered different items from the menu and thoroughly enjoyed them. They were all decent portions and very filling. We did find it a little pricey compared to what we would normally pay but the price reflected the quality of the food we had eaten.A great place to eat even with the unusual location of being right next door to the prison. A place we will no doubt be visiting again.

We eat quite regularly at the Avenue and called on spec on our way back from Durham after a little shopping recently and had a wonderful meal in relaxing atmosphere with great service. The food was very good and the service was excellent, it really is well worth a visit

Visited on a Monday night with my girlfriend. We had started of monkfish cheeks and lamb wrap. Both were beautiful.Mains I had ribeye Steak which was cooked perfectly and was a excellent cut. The chips were excellent, soft in the middle but crunchy on the outside. Girlfriend had the beef featherblade which was melt in the mouth with buttery mash and rich gravy.Would highly recommend. We will be visiting again as there is so many things to try on the menu.

Our first visit for food. We were well looked after and not rushed while we decided to have a drink before food. One roast beef and one medley of meats later... we were over the moon. The most delicious Yorkshires and gravy. Fresh veg. If you go out for Sunday lunch you want as good as home made or better and this was better. We will be back!

Traditional roadside English country pub/restaurant, recently extended creating new dining areas, kitchen and toilets. 'Brewery tap' for Leamside Brewery which is housed in an adjacent building.
My husband and I were in the area for business and a colleague recommended the three horseshoes. We were not disappointed. So much so that we ate there two nights running. There are so many menus, great beers and the service and staff are excellent! We will definitely be back if in the area again. Can highly recommend the falafel, Cumberland ring and Thai fish curry

My friends and I hadn't visited this pub for many, many years but decided to give it a try. We were so happy we did. The menu is varied and the prices good. We chose to have the set lunchtime menu for £8.95 a head,We weren't disappointed. The food was tasty and the presentation really nice. A lot of thought had gone into that.We will return!!

You'll find us just west of the River Wear, on the bustling North Road and right in the heart of the city. From here, we'll be raising the bar... Bringing you the finest cocktails, delicious food and unforgettable nights out. Whether you're brunching, lun
Plenty of offers in return for downloading their App. Downstairs is cosy but the upstairs terrace has a retractable roof so readily converts to outdoors if the sun is shining. Long happy hour with 2 cocktails for the price of one. Staff friendly and attentive. We have visited a couple of times at lunchtime. Friday evenings gets very busy. Food is averagely priced and fairly standard for this type of establishment - good but no real wow factor.Hi David, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review! Weâre glad you enjoyed your visit to our venue and took advantage of our app offers and hope to see you again some time soon! Many thanks, Revolution x

First time visit, nice looking place. Staff was friendly and helpful. Didn't wait long for food to arrive. The food was lovely ordered prawns for starter and duck for main. Prawns cooked nicely....the duck was cooked nicely as well. Prices are okay, as expected with most pub food. Would definitely come back and well recommended.

The cross keys provides friendly service and a range of food for everyone. While we provide traditional homemade British classics we also have a specials board which covers cuisine from around the world. Our desserts are eclectic and traditional
Bishop Middleham is a beautiful village. In it, lies the Cross Keys Inn - a fantastic restaurant. This pub sits on the main road through Bishop Middleham, where there is plenty of on-street parking. The dining area is quite large, but it doesn't feel open and exposed. The layout and decor is such that you do not feel cramped or even slightly bothered by other diners. We visited on a Wednesday night and it was quiet. Still, the staff were very attentive and friendly. The food came out in good time, we weren't sat waiting for long. My wife and I shared the Chicken Goujon starter which came with a side salad and orange slice which was a nice touch. It also came with a generous portion of barbecue sauce. We agreed it was very nice. For our mains, we both chose the beef and ale pie. We have found it difficult to come across a pub/restaurant that sells a proper beef and ale pie. By proper, I mean, most places are selling a dish with a pastry lid. That's no pie!! We were served proper pies here at the Cross Keys - a delicious beef and ale filling encased in shortcrust pastry. We could not give the pies higher marks - it would be tough to find better anywhere else!We love this pub and will plan on returning!
