The Alma Tavern & Theatre is a traditional pub restaurant with the unique added attraction of its own intimate theatre. Situated in the heart of Clifton, the Alma is one of Bristolâs best known pubs and is popular with its locals as well as drawing regula
Went to the Alma Tavern last night to eat before seeing âThe Worst Little Warehouse in Londonâ. What a lovely, friendly gem of a place. Nothing was too much trouble. We were served very quickly in a warm, friendly manner. Being gluten free was no problem and our server was knowledgable about what options were on offer. The antipasti was delicious and just enough for a pre-theatre fill-up. The ambience was just right and the decor quirky but not forced. After the show (which was brilliant) we returned to the bar where our server remembered our preferences from earlier. A fantastic venue, with delicious food, warm atmosphere, attentive staff all added up to a perfectly relaxed evening. Thank you. Thank you so much Alyson, I'm glad you enjoyed everything. I may be slightly biased but it is an incredible pub, see you soonBestToby

The Old Bookshop is a small, eclectic cafe/bar that serves good food at a fair price. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. The walls are covered in old photographs, typewriters and curiosities. We have guest chefs and pop-up kitchens each month, so men
Well impressed..... this is not your bog standard pub lunch...First impressions do count, and from the moment we walked through the door, the ambience of the place was apparent. Full of lively conversation betwee diners in a setting similar to 'an old bookshop' with shelves of books and bric-a-brac surrounding the well laid laid out and well spaced tables. An impressive menu, not cheap, but well priced, and the price reflected the presentation and the quality of the food. Good selection of brews, and the staff were well presented and provided good service. Would return and recommend.

Came in with the hubby as we'd seen their food recommended on Facebook and it did not disappoint! We ordered the dirty fries and a for and chicken burger to share... The portions were generous, good value and tasted delicious! The pub itself was clean and the staff friendly, we will definitely return!

Enjoy the warmth of Sri Lankan hospitality & cuisine, our dishes are rich in Ceylon spices with recipes going back generations from our very own parents' kitchens. Try a traditional Hopper, Kotthu and Devilled dishes, mix them with our tapas style menu. S
As a Sri Lankan I was looking forward to this meal. The food is the biggest problem- in parts not authentically Sri Lankan. They had run out of veg rolls since the day before. My kids were not impressed with the devilled chicken wings as they tasted like chinese sweet and sour and looked exactly that , with a thick lurid red colour sauce. The gova mallun (cabbage) didn't taste good. The clay pot tuna fish was overcooked. I glanced over into the kitchen later on and could see the chef taking a plastic bowl of heated curry out of I presume a microwave and emptying it into the clay pot !!The chicken curry on the bone was a lot of gravy and bones and hardly any chicken. The plain red rice wasn't even cooked fully. The treacle hopper was ok but the ice-cream had obviously been defrosted and frozen again and was unpleasantly gritty. The portions were small and quite expensive for reheated food which didn't taste good. I'm presume the owners of this chain have sacrificed the taste/freshness of the food in order to make money and that's a real shame. I think it will be hard for these restaurants to stand the test of time unless they rethink the model. I don't expect a response from the owners - I can see from previous reviews that when their food is criticised that there is generally no response but they are very willing to apologise for late drinks/wrong orders etc. I think you need to get the food right first. My advice, if you want authentic Sri Lankan food - try anywhere in London.

Tucked away from the hustle & bustle of the city centre, The Bank Tavern has stood since the 1800âs. Surviving an alarming number of riots, two world wars, Bristol City Council town planners and Thatcher. An independent free house, it prides itself on an
After waiting 5 months since booking our reservation we werenât disappointed. Each course faultless and well worth the money. You can get 3 courses for £14.95 and they bring extra gravy without any extra cost. I went with the salt beef starter, beef roast and chocolate brownie dessert. Would definitely return, although their next available booking is October 2020!

Pub serving stonebaked, artisan Pizzas and local - real ales with gorgeous a roof terrace. Bookings only for large parties of 10 +, seat yourself policy otherwise. Open 12-12 Mon - Thursday (& Sunday) and 12 -01 on Fridays and Saturdays
This pub is a real delight. With their pizza being renowned around the student population of Bristol, itâs no wonder why almost everyone I know shares the restaurant on Facebook. The staff are more than friendly, and their customer-submitted artwork is a really effective and unique touch creating a really warm and appealing interior. I would reccommend this place to anyone, and would hands down eat here every day of the week if I could.

Hard to find cosy and jolly pub in Cliftonwood Bristol serving homemade food Tuesday to Saturday and scrummy lunches on Sunday.
We really like this place, although itâs getting busy now so weâre having to book. The burgers are great and I usually get mine with a salad which is always thoughtfully put together. Hubby gets the really good chips with his burgers and I help him finish them as they are plentiful.
