We were taken to The Bell by neighbours last Friday. Whilst the pub looked great, tidy from the outside and well set out on the inside, that was the high point. I thought the service was quite poor with two middle aged waitresses scruffy in appearance and lacking in any conversation. The food was average and some of it expensive for what it was. Wine and beer selection very limited. Not the best experience I have had.Thank you for your review, we endeavour to listen to our customers experiences, as yours has been not to the Standard we expect our customers to receive, we will take this on board. We are very sorry you had a lack of choice in beers and wines, our staff are trained to give the customer tasters, of both Wine and real ale,so the customer has the freedom of choice. We believe we offer an extensive wine, ale. beer and cider choice.

Having read the reviews and had local feedback about how great the Beaver Inn was for food, we couldn't wait to visit. The welcome was friendly enough and all the staff were pleasant but the food was such a let down.We ordered off the specials; sea bass on a shrimp and crab risotto, and a whole plaice with new potatoes and kale. The plaice was so boney, not one mouthful could be taken without spitting out bones, and the veggies were really hard. We've had plaice before and never once has it been inedible due to having so many bones in it. Also, some intestines had been left in.The sea bass was ok, but the risotto was tasteless and there was lots of cartilage from the crab throughout it.All in all, a very poor meal. Lazy fish prep and no one tasting the food.I would give it a miss if I were you.Hello, Firstly let me apologise for your bad experience visiting the Beaver Inn. I have spoken to our whole team to try and gain more information about your complaint and no one seems to be aware of this situation, we check back on tables in the restaurant after they have received their food to make sure that everything is up to standard. Even so, without being informed of a problem there is absolutely no way we can rectify it.Plaice is in fact a bony fish, we are fortunate enough to be able to get it direct from the estuary, unfortunately we are unable to control the amount of bones in each fish, I can however tell you that this is not a common complaint. The Plaice comes in already gutted, ready to serve, I have asked the Chefs thoroughly check each fish in future.I can assure you there is absolutely no cartilage in our crab as it comes in pre pasteurised. We have just come off the back of a highly successful fish week, and as you can hopefully tell from the vast majority of our reviews we rarely receive these types of complaint.Again all i can do is apologise, but please in future give a restaurant the chance to rectify a food issue before condemning them on Trip AdvisorIf you wish to discuss this further, feel free to email us at [email protected]

Having not been before we wanted to try their Sunday roast. We sat upstairs in the window seat on a sunny afternoon which was picture perfect. The Lamb and Vegetarian roast was superb and one of the best weâve ever eaten. The staff were helpful and efficient and we enjoyed the whole experience - highly recommended.

After an extensive refurbishment under taken by its new owners. The Royal George has finally reopened. You are warmly invited to come visit our waterside pub that serves delicious food with fantastic views.
We live in the village and always treat ourselves and go to the George once a month. But I am sorry to say standards have really slipped. On our visit before last we just thought it was a one off but after a short interlude we tried it again. Unfortunately just run of the mill now, food nothing special and portion sizes down

Booked a table here for Sunday lunch with family and our five dogs.Accessed by a narrow road but plenty of parking and road not that busy. Worth the journey.Met and shown to our table. Staff nice and friendly, place lovely and clean.Food, I ordered the pork bits in chilli and ginger as my starter. The best starter I have had in many a year. Tempura prawns was the other starter ordered and was just as good, not that either of us shared much with the others. The main meals where good too, clean plates for everyone. My wife chose the sticky toffee pudding. I was allowed a spoonful and that too was really nice.Lovely restaurant, beautiful food and with good service. Will certainly return, even if it is just for the pork bits.Thank you all.Thank you so much for your wonderful 5* review, we are so delighted you enjoyed your Sunday lunch with us. We look forward to seeing you again soon for the pork bites & perhaps your own portion of sticky toffee pudding!! Best wishes Susan

Luckily we were sightseeing through northern Devon while a Sunday Roast Beef Carvery was being served at the Thatched Inn. This is a beautiful pub, and busy, with many families enjoying the Carvery. The roast beef was mouth-watering good, there was a nice variety of tasty vegetables, and the Yorkshire Puddings were huge. I'm afraid we ate so much we didnât have room for dessert. If you are near Abbotsham on Sunday, check out the Thatched Inn, you won't be disappointed.
