Stokes Grill has been around for a good while, so I decided that longevity must mean something. Between the two of us we had the Pitt Dip (their version of a French dip) and the bourbon BBQ pulled pork. While both were OK, they appeared not to have as much meat as some other restaurants. The problem with that comparison is that the buns that they use at Stokes are a good bit larger than the average bun, so the quantity of meat on the sandwiches might be equal to other places, but it is spread out to cover more area. The pulled pork was OK, nothing too special. The same was the report on the Pitt dip sandwich. They give you a choice of fries, housemade chips or cole slaw. We both had the housemade chips which, also, were OK.

Tuesday is Bacon Night.
We arrived during early during happy hour for dinner so most menu apps were $5 and there were drink specials as well. We had the calamari (great), Lobster/crab Mac & cheese (phenomenal - easily shared between 2 or 3 people), Carnitas Mac & cheese (awesome - also extremely huge), the Totchos (good, not great) & Wings (great)! The inside of the restaurant was dark & dim & loud. We werenât crazy or sure about the vibe, but weâre from out of town, so it might be a great place for locals. The staff was great, the food came out quickly, the prices matched the quantity & quality of food. I only wish there would be more options for Mac & cheese sizes at lower prices.
Out of town and was looking for a spot to eat lunch we saw the building and decided to stop in. Very much a local restaurant but the food was great and we got a couple rounds of pool in before we left. If you are looking for something low key this is the spot!

Sunny Jim's tavern has been serving our community since 1934. Come and see why we are Pittsburgh's longest running Tavern.
We arrived at a very busy time. There was a gathering after an apparent funeral. We thought with so many people that the service would be slow and the food would be slow coming out of the kitchen. No such thing happened. The service was excellent. The place is clean, and the food very good. Since this seems to be the half way point for the 2 couples coming from opposite directions, we will return. Two things that prevented a 5 star rating. #1, they have Pepsi products (too sweet, ugh) and their beer selection is ordinary and boring. In this day and age, the trend is beers of which their selections in bottles and on tap were tereible. Not one single winter dark beer except Guiness. That's it?! What in the world are they thinking? I would think they would make an effort to be more trendy.
This is your typical local place: many of the same people there each night, sports on the TV, music on the jukebox, and a non-fussy atmosphere. We stopped in for drinks and the owner, not having recognized us as coming in before, stopped by to introduce herself and it turned out that she and my husband knew the same people from the neighborhood he grew up in. The kitchen closes early, so get your order in quick (wings, appetizers, etc.), do not be surprised if someone buys the house a round, and sing along when someone starts up the jukebox.

Southern Tier Brewing's PGH brewpub is now open at 316 N. Shore Dr. We offer a 30 tap system of Southern Tier Brews along with Taps from our sister brand, Victory Brewing. Our kitchen features classic American dishes, not your typical pub food. Stop in fo
While visiting Pittsburgh we decided to go for a morning walk to the North Shore. Our morning walk turned into a late morning happy hour when we passed by this place just after 10am. Really cool environment, great outdoor seating and great beer. Itâs amazing how much stuff is in that little area now. Great bar, will return when Iâm in the area. Definitely not a bad spot to sit outside at the bar and watch a college football game on a Saturday.

One of our most favorite restaurants in the city is this local neighborhood mainstay. Great German food. The beer selection is great...try the sampler. If you like your potato pancakes one the "more done" side...ask for Sarah cakes (they make them the regular way and then they deep fry them for a min or two. It make them a little crisper (not over crispy) and more done inside. All other German favorites too!!! They use quality meats so everything is very good.If you are visiting and are on the north side...definitely look this one up. You cannot go wrong! We have never tried it, but we hear that the Sunday Brunch is outstanding.
A decent dive bar heading into downtown. I've been coming here for a few years. It has a large bar and offers decent eats...Depending on who's cooking. There are nightly specials. It does accommodate smokers - know this in advance and no one under 18 as per law. Stop in and catch a to-go beer or stay for a pint. It's friendly and has a Dj some weekends.

So glad this casual neighborhood restaurant continues to provide good meals at good prices. At our recent dinner outing I ate every bite of the tasty steak salad and hubby was very happy with his ribs (generous portion size with lots of meat on the bones and good sauce). The service was good and we watched the baseball game on the tv near us. Have not had a bad meal here and will continue to go back.
The atmosphere is vibrant and fun. It was loud in the bar but very fun. A couple of TVs showing sports and extremely quick service, with a smile. I would definitely come back here if nothing else for the wide beer selection and the pleasant customer service. We all ordered something different but it was all delicious with large portions. The Pork Pot Stickers provided enough for 4 to share as an appetizer with the Quesadillas. They both arrived quickly and presentation was surprisingly nice! One guest had the Cubano and loved it. One had the Asian Catfish Bites which were filling. Of course, I had the mac and cheese and too 90% of it home! It was so delicious! Parking is a bit tricky but we found a spot after a couple of loops around the lot.
