We had our wedding reception here in January and we were overjoyed with the food and service, however we went for a meal on Sunday evening and what a let down. Waited ages for the starter and there were under ten in the restaurant, starters were OK but blue cheese dip was just a lump of blue cheese with a blob of mayonnaise on top. The main courses for the blue boar were very disappointing, not how advertised on the specials board for the chicken dish and my steak which is supposedly from Frank Parkers and I asked for medium rare was medium well at best and not as you would expect. One soft drink one beer two starters and mains for £47 not be returning for the foreseeable future. You have been warned.

It was abysmal. I ordered a passion fruit and mango pavlova for dessert. Sounds nice, doesn't it? When it came (without any explanation as to why it wasn't a Pavlova) in a sundae glass it was clearly NOT a Pavlova... more an Eton Mess, which is not what I ordered. On the top was an 1/8th of a passion fruit segment (that was the reference to passion fruit in the title which I had to pick up and squeeze over the top). If I had closed my eyes, there is no way I could have identified the mango sauce, I suspect from a jar or sachet but certainly not fresh... that had been poured over the crushed (bought... no way were they homemade) meringues... probably nests from the local Co-op down the road. The "Pavlova" had never seen a piece of fruit in its short life and they had the audacity to charge £6.25 for this mess. It doesn't even deserve a capital M !!The more I think about it, the more I think they deserve this review. Particularly as it was preceded by a plate of beer battered cod (I've never had such a greasy piece of cod in my life... all it had going for it was the size... huge... I couldn't eat it all, even having removed the soggy batter. The chips were equally greasy as the fish (as they'd 'decoratively' placed the fish on top of the chips and the fat drained onto them from the undercooked soggy batter bottom of the fish... and a million miles from the popular twice or triple cook chips that people hope for these days!! The "crushed peas" (seemingly a little posher than mushy, which I dislike) were simply processed peas, probably frozen or from a tin... mushed, rather than pureed. They went back to the kitchens untouched.Suffice to say. we won't return. It just about struggled into the 1 âï¸ category... that was for the huge piece of fish (surprisingly not overcooked) and weak cappuccino that had mostly froth on the top and little flavour. Hey ho... it was convenient and the staff polite. Thanks for your feedback. We remember your table being served promptly and your organiser paid and praised the staff and food.At any point during your dining experience did you relay your feedback to our waiting on staff? I know for a fact the table was checked on several times by our staff and no such complaints were made. I find it hard to believe that absolutely everything that passed your lips was inedible/ tasteless/ greasy yet the other 20+ diners we served that evening had no complaints. Our Pavlova is made with fresh ingredients and has proven to be a popular summer dessert so we are sorry if it wasnât to your taste. As for your Fish and Chips it states on our Menu that it is served with Crushed Peas, if that is not your preference we could have served garden peas had you asked, we can assure you that our peas aren't processed. We have found our new and improved chips very popular so we are sorry they werenât to your liking even though they are hand-cut, twice cooked chips. If your fish was soggy we can only apologise, again if we had been informed of this we would have promptly replaced the dish with a fresh one.A Cappuccino is an espresso topped with hot milk and milk froth, exactly what you would have been served had it been too weak for you simply telling the staff would have resulted in a fresh, stronger coffee had you asked. I hope we have addressed all the issues youâve brought up, unfortunately it seems you would rather defame our business after that fact without giving us chance to rectify any mistakes at the time, should you return in the future we would do everything in our power to change your mind.

Offering Stonebaked Pizzas, Steaks and Burgers alongside our usual selection of Steamin' Billy ales with some great wines, cocktails & craft beers. We aim to offer a warm welcome to all with excellent customer service in the White Horse.
We were a large group with infant and toddler and had a good dining experience despite the slow service. The cheese fries and meatballs are good starters. Highly recommend the Gammon steak for dinner. The pizzaâs are extremely large. The dining room has seating outside as well.

Came back to the Rose as weâd been the prior year and had a lovely meal, but the place must have changed hands since.Had to wait an age for the food to come out, when I chased about 40 mins post ordering, I was told that there had been a stop on food as they were running the sunday lunch as a priority and our food would be out in around ten minutes. Understandable but you should have told me that at point of ordering. When the food arrived I wish we hadnât have bothered it was truly, truly, awful. We had four different dishes and all agreed each was significantly sub par. Given the prices (which is around that of food in a decent London pub) I cannot believe what was put in front of us. Itâs a shame as I love the pub and having grown up in the village I enjoy going back, but Iâd never eat there again with the current menu.Youâve let yourselves down.

A small country pub that serves traditional home cooked food
Visited this pub for the second time and it lived up to our expectations. Beautiful sunny day and we enjoyed a drink before our meal in the garden. Food was excellent, starters were hot and tasty. Loved the trio of cheese. Roast lunches were exceptional, so much choice of vegetables. Meat was tender and good thick slices served. Our friends said it was the best Sunday lunch they had ever had. Well priced and definitely recommend this pub. We will definitely be visiting again.
