We stayed 2 nights within the fort and tried 3 different restaurants. Though they mostly sell the same type of food, all of us unanimously agreed that restaurante Baluarte served the tastiest Portuguese dishes among the three restaurants. The portions are very generous and very tasty! We had the grilled sardines dish which was extremely delicious and fresh and the seafood rice was very appetizing!!! The dessert was also very good! The service was fantastic too! The waiter was extremely attentive and very patient with us!All in all, we had a great meal and a wonderfully enjoyable time there! Though it was posh looking, it was very affordable for the amount served and definitely value for money! We highly recommend this restaurant!!!
I highly recommend this lovely âtascoâ for all those walking the Camino Portuguese . Itâs just off the stairs going up to main road and Albergue, to the far left as you face Valenca from the bus station . The chef owner Jessica is a talented cook and pastry chef, they have varietal beers and cider. Menu Del Dia is 8⬠- and not typical/ beautifully prepared/ seasoned.Wonderful way to begin your stay in Valença before hitting the Albergue!Would include a photo but my camera broke! They also serve vegetarian meals- just ask.

Stopped for lunch here today. I had the special toasted sandwich and my wife had a house salad. A glass of homemade lemonade and a glass of wine. All for 10:20 euros which is unbelievable good value for great tasty food.

This restaurant is hidden away behind the main road out of Valença but it is well worth a visit. The place gets VERY busy at Sunday lunchtimes so phone ahead and reserve a table. We had Costeletas (ribs) and they were mouth-watering. You just go for it and eat them with you hands!! The place also does really succulent roast chicken and the Bacalhãu is justly famous! The staff are quick and helpful and the place has a real family vibe. If you have kids then bring them in as (unlike many English restaurants) they are more than welcome here! They have a good wine list at a variety of prices but we just had beer and you know what, that´s fine! The price was amazingly low and the amount of food would have fed a small army!! Visit this place!!

Food was great, but beware - they get quite crowded during lunch hour, from about 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm, and many people left due to the long wait (remember, this is Europe, people take their time over their meals). Was seated at a dirty table, waited 20 minutes for the table to be cleared and for menus. But once we got past that, the food was good, nice wines as well.

We had the pleasure and privilege to dine in this restaurant on an evening of Fado. We loved every minute, not only the wonderful food but Miguel the singer and his 2 guitaristas. Listening to Fado in such beautiful surroundings, even though we didn't understand Portuguese, we were totally entranced by the whole evening. The staff were excellent, and the food was some of the best and most interesting that we have experienced for some time. Not only that it was very reasonably priced at 25 Euros for the evening. An event not to be missed if you get the chance!

I stoped on the way to santiago in Valença. We left the inn for dinner on a day when to my surprise the restaurants were closed. we found this and went inside to eat something simple. We chose roasted chicken with fries. It felt like the chicken had not been roasted at the time. was warmed to be served. the potatoes were not crispy. The employee who served us was friendly, diligent and professional.

We took our evening meal at Fortaleza and it was a good choice. The ensalada mixta was fresh and flavorful with local tomatoes and onions. While the melon with ham was one of the juiciest and tastiest entrees I have ever enjoyed, the calamari romano reached our table dry, bland, and unimaginably presented. It was clearly sitting around the kitchen for a long time before reaching our table. The staff was very professional and responsive to our needs. Overall, it was a good meal--a five star dinner if we had freshly cooked calamari.

Welcome to our house Place of meeting and sharing. Gastrobar, snacks, wines & gins, cafeteria and bar. Welcome to the last Portuguese bar on the way to Santiago.
Stopped here on a day trip from Galicia to Portugal on a rainy Sunday having read great reviews on Tripadviser. Stood there for 5 minutes without the guy behind the bar paying any attention to us at all. The place was almost empty so it was not like he was busy with other customers. We decided to take our money elsewhere. Glad he does not work in my business....I am sad for receiving my first horribel rating, if you even try our service, but would be more sad if you gives us a horribel about Our food, because until today, its never happened. I hope that someday you will come for another visit to change your opinion. Thanks
