Reviews on Portuguese food in Maputo, Maputo Province, Mozambique. Maputo, the lush capital of Mozambique, sits on the shore of the Indian Ocean. Founded as a port town by the Portuguese, the influence of travelers and traders from Africa, Asia, and Europe, has made the city a diverse and lively metropolis. The area is famous for its prawns in peri-peri sauce, a spicy concoction made from an especially hot African chili pepper. Calm down your taste buds afterwards with a beer at one of the many bars and nightclubs in the Fere de Populare neighborhood.

My friends who live in Maputo recommended that restaurant as one of the top ones. I ordered Fillet of beef Wellington, it was very tasty - 4,5 of 5, I would say. Beef was accompanied with vegetables (well cooked btw). We also had feta cheese baked with red onion marmalade (delicious). Desserts are just fine but mango mousse was perfect. 'Crepes suzette' doesn't worth to order, it's poor one. Maybe right portion of Cointreau was missed..:)

We were a group of six and ordered a variety of starters and mains. The clams starter was pretty tasty but the standout was the meat samosas. We also ordered a starter of garlic shrimp but they never came and fortunately we weren't charged for them. I ordered fried calamari for my main course but received grilled calamari which came with potatoes, cabbage, and greens on the side. The calamari was pretty average. Others had prawns which they seemed to like. Those who ordered the piri-piri chicken ended up receiving plain chicken with the piri-piri on the side. Overall I'd say it's filling and a pretty good value but you can definitely do better in Maputo.

Delicious sumptuous local food. A unique fusion of local and traditional Portuguese dishes served with style. For starters try the samoosas, shrimp rissole and beef croquettes. Fillet espetada and Portuguese chicken pieces was another favorite. Puddings to die for - chocolate ice cream cake, mousse and cashew tart.... tried them all and will do it again

This place is lovely. The selection of wine is great, the cocktails are fabulous but I was disappointed with the food. The veggie lasagne was poor, rather like a microwave meal back home. Given the high quality of everything else - this was disappointing. I will definitely go back and try something else.Thank you for the constructive criticism we will have a look at that.Sergio de Oliveira
