Things to do in Barcelos
We found the Tunel dos sabores restaurant in Barcelos and were we glad. The owner who has recently opened the restaurant was so friendly and helpful. We don't speak Portuguese but he speaks fluent English and he explained the menu and suggested wines to go with the meal. The food was delicious, each of us had fish of one kind or another and all our meals were delicious and beautifully presented. The wines were also great. In addition we were given small dishes of beautiful bread, croquettes and dips. The price was very reasonable especially considering the high standard of the food and wine.Thnaks for the review

So disappointed about this place following a number of recommendations. We had the Kid (roast baby goat) a dish that we had enjoyed elsewhere. The roast potatoes accompanying the meat were quite splendid. The meat was tough, sparse and tasteless. A waste of time and money. To be fair our wine was fine.

The quality of the food is very low. The waiter came to us without a knowledge equal to 0 of their products; she didn't even know about which beers they had in the menu. I had a beef with mushoroom creme. The creme was clearly the one you buy in supermarkets so super heavy and fat. Not Recommended at all.

On the route of the Portuguese Caminho of St.James, magnificent portuguese traditional cuisine and great hospitality.
We didn't eat on the restaurant side but ate in the snack bar side with all the pilgrims. Good selection, appropriate prices, r owner was very helpful and knowledgable. This is a must do stop on the caminho.By the way, just past the bar is a small shopping centre which includes a supermarket and it's not marked on my maps.

We're 4 pilgrims on the Camino Portuguese. We've spent 1 day each in Lisbon and Porto before starting our hike in Porto. Our guesthouse recommended the Casa dos Arc is, near the bridge in Barcelos. This was an excellent choice. We had the roasted octopus, the rice with monkfish and prawn (for 2) and the cod with bread crumbs. We tasted each other's selection and all agreed that everything was delicious - better than the good fares in Lisbon and Porto. We also ordered 2 mixed salad and they were huge and fresh, with cucumber, tomato, lettuce and onion - and a light oil and vinegar dressing. The waiter suggested a local vinho Verde that went very well with our seafood. BTW, The portions were large and our group could have been happy and filled with just 3 main courses. This restaurant must be very popular with the locals for it was filled by 8:30 pm with non-tourists. I would be back again if I ever find myself in Barcelos. Highly recommended.

Putting food on the plate in a trendy, "Masterchef" kind of way does not make your food worth charging exorbitant amounts of money for. I ordered a â¬25.50 tournedos with a three pepper sauce and mushrooms. The taste of the three pepper sauce was drowned by the various onions on the plate. There were about 3 micro mushrooms on the plate - looked pretty but totally pointless from a taste point of view. There were also little meringues - I guess points should be given for creativity but it didn't really work for me unfortunately as I think they were the only carbohydrates on the plate. I was not asked by the waiter how I wanted my tournedos cooked, but having volunteered my request for medium/rare I got rare. Friends shared the chicken-in-a-loaf-of-bread dish, which apparently was "quite nice", but way overpriced at â¬54 for 2 people. What I really didn't like is that having not ordered starters (as we were in a hurry), the waiters brought three large starter dishes and proceeded to plonk them on the table (I'm not talking olives and nibbles here, I'm talking mussels, prawns and what looked like fried camembert or something). When we said we didn't want them, we were told we ought to have them because our mains would be 20-25 minutes. We said we didn't want both and asked if the mains could be done a little quicker because we were in a hurry, and were told "they take as long as they take". There is potential here and the location is lovely but don't try to be something you're not, and don't rip people off.

On the seafront of the charming village of Apulia, Camelo Restaurant is the right choice for those seeking the freshest and most charismatic flavors of the region. The fresh wild fish, especially the famous Robalo Rice, is the main attraction. Taste it wi
I had the monkfish with shrimps risotto (arroz de tamboril com gambas) and the fish was extremely fresh. The risotto is for two people and costs 37â¬, a bit expensive but real good quality. Starters bolinho de bacalhau and rissois not interesting. Very rich the coconut cake. Long and reasonable list of wines. Friendly service. Nice view to the sea and beach especially from the 1st floor balcony. A place to repeat.

Not too much to be said about this place. It has a nicely decorated interior trending somewhere in the direction of in-style of nostalgia and offers a fair range of burgers, steak sandwiches, and beers. Food is good but not outstanding and fairly priced. Staff is friendly and attentive.
