The newly refurbished tunnel is an excellent achievement, well worth the delay and expense. Connecting North Shields with Jarrow, it allows exploration of both sides of the Tyne on foot, cycle, mobility scooter etc., and with your dog if you want. Descend by stairs, escalator or lift to the clean, bright and safe tunnel and cross under the Tyne the relatively short distance to emerge the other side by the same methods. Free and well served by the number 11 bus North Shields side and bus terminus Jarrow side. Give it a go.

We stopped here with our grandsons. Our elder grandson age 10 had read up information about it before we went and so gave us lots of facts about the statue. The younger one was at first a bit overwhelmed but soon warmed to the statue and enjoyed running around it. It is worth stopping here for a closer look as it is easily accessible just off the A1 with a small car park so if you are travellng up the A1 and want a short break you may as well stop here and stretch your legs

There is some fantastic Georgian architecture on Grey Street looking from Grey’s monument down towards the Quayside or the castle. Some of the buildings are really beautiful housing the Theatre Royal, shops banks and offices. There are lots of places to stop and enjoy something to eat or drink and enjoy the view, and lots of shops. Don’t miss the historical and equally stunning Central Arcade.

Came here waiting for our friends to finish 'Run The Wall' event from Carlisle to Gateshead. A wonderful curved design, well worth a stroll over this bridge and looks fantastic all lit up at night. There are also some good cafes, bars and restaurants along the Quayside.

A really nice beach and cove which is great to keep an eye on the kids while they swim in the sea and a real sun trap being a cove . I am so fortunate to live here ..
