In busy Shinjuku, you’ll find some of the tallest buildings in Toyko, as well as tons of shopping malls, bars and clubs. To escape the hustle and bustle, TripAdvisor travelers recommend visiting Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, a beautiful and peaceful park in the middle of the city.

The tallest building in Shinjuku, TMG No. 1 offers sweeping views of Tokyo -- all the way to Mt. Fuji on a clear day -- from the 45th floor observatory.
Fantastic views of the Tokyo City and suburbs. Free entry. There are two observation towers - one in each of the building's two towers. It is located above Tochomae Station (on the Toei Oedo line), or is a comfortable 10 minute walk from Shinjuku Station (all other train lines including JR, Keio, Seibu, Odakyu and other subway lines).

The South Observatory will remain closed, due to remodeling work on the TMG Buildings. It is scheduled for a renewal opening around spring of 2019. (The Norh Observatory is open.)

A great place to walk around and get transformed back in time to how the drinking scene in Tokyo was.. great place to grab a couple of drinks just for the experience. Most places charge a cover fee for entrance and usually seat any where between 6-8 people. There are some that are strictly for members and will have it written on the door clearly, so don’t bother with them

I had a lovely time wandering through these couple of alleys, before sitting in one of the tiny restaurants for some yakitori- I had beef & also a bunch of veggies wrapped in bacon! Delicious. Some of the restaurants (which are all pretty tiny) have second floors, so dont assume they're all full. Like most bars/restaurants around Tokyo, all have a cover fee ranging from ¥300-1000.

Lots of items to see and play with, but at the end of the day, we decided against buying a camera here because of how hard it would be to return if there’s any issues with it, besides, we really didn’t find it cheaper than back home where we can get pretty good deals on Black Friday or Boxing Day. Regardless, this is a fun place to explore. The grocery area is my favourite because of all the unique items they have. Just the different kinds of Kitkat alone was amazing!

We stayed at the Hanabi Hotel and was a 3 minute walk to the train station. It is a wonderful area as it is so central. The train is easy - one line goes to Shinjuku, the other to Ueno. JR Yamonote line is one big circle so if you remember that Ueno is at 2 o'clock and Shinjuku at 8 o'clock you will never get lost. JR Yamonote line is green and at the station ticket machine no.5 is in English. We were in Tokyo for 8 days and used this line a few times per day and we had 25 AUD on our Suica card each. The area is full of convenience stores so you can grab pre-made meals and try the sandwiches. They are the best you will ever eat. You have to try the "UFO" chicken...... Fried chicken that comes out on a round, heavy skillet with cheese in the middle. There is fairy floss in animal shapes, amazing Street food and plenty of stores selling beauty products from Korea. It is one stop from Shinjuku and not as crazy. It is also completely safe. Halal foods are also on offer with a row of shops and grocery stores all halal safe. You will love it here.

On our last day in Japan we wanted to See Godzilla. Admission is FREE. From our accommodation The Keio plaza Hotel we walked 10mins to Shinjuku Station. From there We walked another 10mins to Hotel Cracery & spotted Godzilla on the roof. We went through under the Cinema complex to the ground level floor Elevator of Hotel Gracery. It is Clearly signed for directions. We took the Elevator up to 9th floor.Once there you walk out onto the outside Deck where you are greeting with a huge Godzilla Head & Claw. We got there right on the hour so get to hear Godzilla Roaring, eyes flashing Red & steam coming out of his mouth, At night it shows red laser beams coming out of his mouth. Show is on every hour from 12pm-12am & goes for about 3minutes. I would Highly recommend.
