Harry's New York Bar

This old bar was a favorite hangout of F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway in the 1920s.

Reviewed By JennLala - New York City, United States

This was an adorable bar and is well worth stopping in for a visit. Not only do they make amazing cocktails, it was neat to drink here for historic reasons. It is the oldest cocktail bar in Paris and known to be the spot where several classic drinks such as The Bloody Mary and Sidecar were invented. Hemingway and Chanel drank here and Gershwin composed "American In Paris" in the piano corner downstairs. Though the drinks are on the pricey side, they are worth it. As the evening progressed the lights were dimmed and a piano player came in to entertain for the evening. It was romantic and lovely and we ended up having a second round. Over all this was a fabulous place to enjoy history and meticulously made delicious cocktails.

Place Vendome

This public square, which has a statue of Napoleon in its center, is known for the glitzy jewelry stores that surround it.

Place Vendome is a rather nice public square with many shops in the general area. We wandered around for a while enjoying the views. In the centre of the square there is a tall column which was erected by Napoleon to commemorate the battle of Austerlitz. It seems to dominate the square but it is quite an interesting column.

Bring your love of jewelry - and a loaded wallet - to this busy street, where you can find some of the city's best gold, silver and gems.

Luxury stores and luxury hotels all in one vicinity is a very understandable tandem. The rich and famous paradise for items that caught their fancy. We only had our window-shopping to see how it is in this part of Paris specially in this kind of merchandise. Strolling along a quieter street from Place de l'Opera to the Place Vendome until somewhere we can find another Metro.

Place des Pyramides

Reviewed By 750dimitrisl - Sydney, Australia

Place des Pyramides is the Square outside the entrance to the Louvre Museum. It is quite a busy area. There are a couple of Glass Pyramids one of which is much larger than the other, and forms part of the entrance to the museum. The name owes its origin to the fact that it honours Napoleon Bonaparte's victory at the Battle of the Pyramids in Egypt, in 1798.
