On a trip to Ripon a visit to see the hornblower is a must. At 9p.m for 365 days of the year for well over a thousand years, the hornblower has blown his horn in the market square to proclaim all is well. The hornblower then gives an interesting and informative talk about the history of this daily event and is happy to answer any questions. It takes approx. 30 minutes and is time well spent.

If you can manage the walk this amazing Middlesbrough landmark is one to visit for sure. There a small town nearby with a convenience store to grab a picnic before you head up to... just make sure you bring walking boots ????

Visit the only Grade 1 listed building in the heart of Harrogate. Saint Wilfrid's church was designed by the famous architect Temple Moore in the early 1900's. The church is very striking architecturally, with some excellent examples of stained glass, a stunning parish hall with an unusual "lamella" ceiling, cloisters and free car parking. St Wilfrid's is open every day for visits and services.

Shambles (or The Shambles as it is often referred to) is a street in the city centre of York with a long and interesting past. Dating back to Medieval times it was once the street of the butcher shops. Today the Shambles is Europe's most visited street, attracting tourists, shoppers and business clients.
Beautiful and busy It’s a Harry Potter fans heaven There’s also lots of odd little quirky shops with unusual gifts to be had A small market square is tucked away with lots of hand crafted gifts The old buildings add to the nostalgia of this pretty shopping area

Castle Howard is one of England's finest historic houses, set in a thousand acres of sweeping parkland dotted with statues, temples, lakes and fountains. Inside discover world-renowned collections gathered by succeeding generations of the Howard family. Built over 300 years ago, today it still remains a family home.
We spent a couple of hours at castle Howard and enjoyed the garden, fountain and the grandeur of this stately home....the TV history was also fascinating...

Beautiful window located in the South Transept of the York Minster commemorating the end of the War of the Roses in 1486.
We have visited York Minster four times during the past decade. Each visit opens us to new wonders and deepens our sense of awe in this remarkable edifice. On our latest visit, it was nice to see the results of the window restoration work, although we did miss the interactive informational kiosks and bubble that were in place during the restoration.

Testing the Yorkshire peaks for later in the year, and found the place to be amazing, if you're considering this with a break midway the Station Inn is great

If you are passing through or staying at beautiful Saltburn, pause for a moment and take in the beauty of a stroll along the pier whilst watching those brave surfers catch a wave or two! Look out for the mark of the knitters who are celebrating the Pier’s 150th Birthday and look up towards the cliff cab which will take you onwards and upwards if your legs can’t carry you back up the hill into town. .... Gorgeous sunsets this week, and wonderful friendly folk! Very impressed with the town promoting everyone to talk two minutes of their day and pick up any plastic from the beach... & people were taking time out to support x
