A spot of white in the turquoise waters of the Aegean Sea, the island of Naxos is a unique blend of ancient ruins and beach culture. The largest of the Cycladic Islands, Naxos is the childhood home of none other than Zeus, king of the gods. Upon arrival in Naxos, hike over a causeway to Palatia, where the Portara, a stone gateway to an ancient temple that no longer exists, stands alone, the symbol of the island. At sunset, the views of the island, and the sea beyond, are breathtaking.

Bazeos Tower 17th century monumend in the inland of Naxos, where take place every summer the Naxos Festival.
Used to be a monastery, served as a church for many years, now a place for art exhibitions and performances. Great views!!

Aries Spring is a picturesque spot with a wonderful view of the village of Filoti. The stone-built spring, located under the cool shade of an age-old plane tree.
Very much enjoyed our stop here after Hiking Mount Zas. We didn't take the more difficult path down the backside of the moutain, so we had to make a seperate trip to this spring. You can drive right up to the site, though the road is very narrow on a cliff. The spring itself is very nice, fresh, cool and drinkable water. Glad we stopped here to take this in. Three windmills, on a small hill overlooking the entrance to the village, are a landmark. Built in the 19th century, they are a distinct form of Cycladic architecture.
