La Palma is a pristine paradise, set against a backdrop of volcanic landscape. Perhaps the best way to experience La Palma’s rugged beauty is a hike through the Caldera de Taburiente National Park or the narrow gorges of Los Tilos. The cool waters of natural swimming hole Charco Azul beckon on a steamy day. The dark sands of Playa Nueva are great for sunbathing and cat naps.

Took the bus here from our hotel, about €3 each way for the two of us. The salt flats are a self sufficient business with walks around the outside of the salt pans. There are plenty of information boards to read on the way around in multiple languages to give you a better understanding of what you are looking at. It doesn’t take long to complete the walk, perhaps 45 minutes. There is also a restaurant and small shop to pick up products and have a drink/food. Lovely views and some interesting content. Worth a visit I’d say.

Best kept secret on La Palma! Great place to swim in crystal like waters! Very difficult to get to, because the very narrow 4kms road plunges towards the sea in a series of steep hairpins! In Tijarafe, turn into the calle Molina right after the Kiosko del Diablo, and drive slowly down and down and down until the small parking lot. Then, 10 mns walk will bring you to the spectacular sea cave where a few fishermen houses have been built years ago! The water is just gorgeous, and just a little fresh which is quite pleasant in the summer. You can dive into the sea, or use the ladder nailed into the rocks. Bring good shoes, sunscreen, water, and a small towel as there is not much space to lay down onto the rocks! Just magical!

Calle O'Daly is 'The' central street of Santa Cruz, there are many historical buildings and churches along its length dating back to the first Spanish settlers on the Island. Walking the length of the town starting with this street can be done in 15 minutes but its a 'Good day out' to walk and visit the various sites and shops, take your time there is lots to see. Can get a little busy if there's a BIG cruise liner in Port

Visited as part of a cruise stop-off. Loved the town. Very clean with wonderful old streets full of character. Beautiful flowers and plants everywhere. Wish we could have spent more time there. Recommended.
