I am no stranger to concenration camps, having viisted a few across Eastern Europe, and I realise of course that Srebenica is not one of these. It is nevertheless the scene of one of the most heinous war crimes in history - which is well documented. This is why it is so important to have places such as this which are open for those who wish to visit. It forms an important part of both history and education for future and current generations. This place was then for me increidbly moving - I was lucky in that when I arrived with my own private guide, a large tour group had preceeded me and was having a talk by one of the survivors. It was both an honour and a privilige to see this man talk about his experiences. The memorial site itself is so very moving with rows upon rows of gravestones, shining and white in the sunshine - it is both ironic and symbolic that this colour, which symbolises life and purity was chosen in the midst of such pain and suffering. Go there if you can.

The statue is almost life-like in appearance and conveys serene beauty. People place flowers, pictures, and notes at the feet of Our Lady Queen of Peace to pay her homage and ask for intervention and assistance with life’s issues. The statue is not adored, but reverently honoured as a reflection of the Blessed Mother Mary.

Mostar is a short 2-3hr drive from the Croatian coastal cities of Split and Dubrovnik - making it an excellent choice for a day trip. Most of the Town was destroyed during the civil war but has been painstakingly restored. The focal point is the iconic bridge which is packed with tourist waiting to watch local men jump the 21 metres in to the ice cold water below. Firstly, it’s a show for money - so be expected to contribute. Secondly it’s not for the faint of hearted - 21m is a long way day, especially diving in to water just 6m deep. Either side of the bridge are shops and restaurants where you can stop for lunch, a beer and watch the performance.

Beautiful area to walk along the streets, cross the bridge and take lots of photos that are postcard worthy! Nice places to stop for ice cream, coffee, and shop for local artwork. Some good restaurants as well with million dollar views. We found everyone to be very friendly and accommodating.

After reading alot about the Seige in Sarajevo I really wanted to visit this place and I certainly wasn't disappointed. From the second you arrive walking past the original house with bullet holes and continue inside to watch the documentaries and then see the tunnel itself is incredible. The entrance fee is 10BAM and we'll worth it. There is lots to see and learn here. It is quite small compared to other places, but it gives you a real sense of the struggle that the Sarajevo locals faced during the siege.

Avaz Twist Tower is the highest skyscraper in the Balkan region of Europe. The tower is the headquarters of "Dnevni avaz", the most circulated and most read newspapers in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Avaz Twist Tower features high-speed panoramic elevators, which climb to the top of 36th floor, that offers an outside observatory from where you can see the whole Sarajevo. The tower is open from 7am - 11pm every day.

Cheap, stunning views. Bring your mobile. Then enjoy coffee and a snack before heading back. Only big surprise is that the tower seems rather disconnected from the heart of the city.
