Aveiro

Traveling from "O Porto" to "Coimbra", we stopped shortly at "Aveiro". A small town famous for its beautiful canals ("Rías de Aveiro"), the colorful boats "Moliceiros", the innumerous Art-Nouveau buildings (as the "Casa do Major Pessoa - Museu Arte Nova"), the conventual sweets ("Ovos Moles d'Aveiro", naturally) and the awesome porcelain "Museu Vista Alegre" in nearby Ílhavo. Unmissable by anyone traveling in Northern Portugal! Enjoy!

The Aveiro Salines

Reviewed By MarinaSchoon - Salmon Arm, Canada

After taking a canal tour that went near the salt beds we asked about seeing them up close and discovered that it was free to walk around them. You can walk all along the beds and there is information in Portuguese and English that explains how the salt is harvested ... a difficult job and still done manually. I thought it was very interesting and made a point to pick up some salt (very cheap! ) from the stores to take home.
