We took a taxi from the Malecon to the vista point above La Choclatera and after getting some sweet pictures we had him drive us down and out to the point where this site is. We had to pass through the Military gate to get out there, no big deal there though. The land is flat and mostly barren being on the volcanic rock from who knows when. The name comes from the color of the volcanic rocks, has nothing to do with chocolate. This vistas from the point are awesome. There's a snack bar that serves food and beverages, and a bathroom building, which is great since there is nothing else out there. We took the hike of about 40 minutes to La Loberia, the first part is sand but about half way (there are covered areas with water fountains along the way) it turns to a brick path. This has only been available in the past 10 years.

This beach is cleaner than most I've been to. The cabanitas, and there are many, offer great breakfasts and fresh seafood. Plenty of sun umbrellas and chair to rent at a decent price. There are vendors that walk the beach selling jewellry, food, hats, sand toys, etc...but they are polite. Great place to watch the sunsets.
