The crown jewels, Buckingham Palace, Camden Market…in London, history collides with art, fashion, food, and good British ale. A perfect day is different for everyone: culture aficionados shouldn't miss the Tate Modern and the Royal Opera House. If you love fashion, Oxford Street has shopping galore. For foodies, cream tea at Harrod’s or crispy fish from a proper chippy offers classic London flavor. Music and book buffs will love seeing Abbey Road and the Sherlock Holmes Museum (at 221B Baker Street, of course).

For 10 quid you get a lot for your money. Super interesting museum and an opportunity to see a different side of Tower Bridge. It’s been done really well and whilst the glass floor is an interesting (and vertiginous) experience its really a side show to learning about the history and complexity of this iconic landmark. Be sure to watch the film in the engine room; fascinating.

A trip on the London Eye is truly captivating, a ‘must-do’ and has been London’s number one visitor experience for over a decade. Elegantly rotating over the River Thames and less than a five minute stroll from Waterloo station along the beautiful Southbank. Step into your capsule and feel the exhilaration as you rise up over the Thames. Come face to face with the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, before soaring above them - up to 135 metres on the world’s tallest cantilevered observation wheel. There are mesmerising 360-degree views of the capital laid out before you - London’s most famous landmarks and up to 40km out of the city to Windsor Castle on a clear day.

A permanent reminder of the Great Fire of 1666, the Monument commemorates one of the most famous events in London's history. Standing regally on the piazza between Fish Street Hill and Monument Street, the 202ft column designed by Sir Christopher Wren and Dr Robert Hooke, celebrates the City which rose from the ashes. The Monument invites you to climb its 311 spiral steps and enjoy one of the best views over the City.
I’m London born and bred, having visited most of the important London landmarks as a child but had never climbed Monument. Today I did with my children and I’m so glad to have done so! There’s a teeny, tiny ticket office at the base with a very small unsecured (leave your valuables at home or stick them in your pockets as you’re not able to take bags up) area for backpacks/bags. Then it’s onwards and upwards of 311 steps to the top. The steps are shallow and even, easy to climb. If you need to take a breather en route to the summit, there are window recesses at intervals. The stairs get narrower the higher you go, making it slightly tricky when people coming down pass by. The view from the viewing platform is your reward for the climb and it’s well worth the effort, esp as the day we visited afforded us clear blue skies. I loved it! Oh, you get a certificate on your way out to say you made it to the top of Monument!

The View Tube is in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and is very close to the Pudding Mill Lane station which is on the Docklands Light Railway which is served by trains from Stratford to Canary Wharf. Take a short walk under the railway line and you can see the green units of the View Tube. I visited during lockdown restrictions and their cafe was open for food to takeaway or sit in their garden area where there are quite a few socially distanced seating areas. I ordered some food and a drink and was given a disc which bleeped loudly when my food was ready so I knew I could collect it. They have free wifi and my food was very tasty. If you are visiting the area which is at the end of the green way I would definitely recommend a visit for a pitstop.
