It was officially awarded township status in 1742, and it is still the major town for the region. The administrative center of the municipality is the city of Kristiansund. A short walk from the Thon hotel we found an absolute gem for dinner. Dodge laden Cafe welcomed us warmly and explained the limited blackboard menu. We chose 2 fish dishes and the Bacalhau was really delicious. Real tasty hearty fare. Great ambiance as well.

New restaurant with both dinner courses and lunch. You can order by the table or buy wraps, smoothie etc by the counter. Lovely building, location and interior-design, and reasonable prices. We were a group of friends visiting for dinner. The food did disappoint us, unfortunately.....The fish soup where thin and tasteless. The Chicken salad was boring with lots of oil in and tasteless pasta (watery taste and over-cooked pasta). No salt or pepper on the table. Dessert menu also boring, with a scoop of ice-cream and chocolatesauce, or waffle with ice and berries (the waffle tasted old and not sweet). Small changes to the cooking would improve the tastes a lot.

Maett & Go Eteri og Landhandleri is a interesting combination of a restaurant and a shop for local food. This combination could have been dynamite, but the restaurant fails to impress. They mainly serve burgers of average quality. Too bad.Thanks for Your honest comments! We'll take them into consideration on the development of our place! :)

I have eaten here several times. And Bacalao is defiantly a favorite. The food menue is good, however I do think they should get some more "masculine" dessert menue. Be simple please, - get some brownie and ice cream!The service is usually OK.

My wife and I went for dinner at this restaurant located in the central downtown harbour area, overlooking the seafront and small mountain Freikollen. We tried the Klippfish - or salted and dried cod fish. Very tasteful, with good garnish. A glass of Chablis fulfilled the gourmet feeling. A bit expensive, but you pay what you get.

If you are going to dine out even just once in Kristiansund, make sure it is Smia! Gorgeous little restaurant just a 5 minute walk from Sundbaten jetty. It is set in an old fishing house so has a very rustic and authentic feel.They don't have a large menu, but what they do offer is a nice selection of local seafood dishes such as bacalao, halibut, etc.Very intimate restaurant, great service and the food is delicious - try the bacalao if you want to have something truly local.Great to dine here as a couple or a small group.Thank You for these kind words! Was greeted with a big smile from the only staff on duty on a Monday. There's only me and another couple but service was still great even though it was a slow monday. More people came later.I had the scallops and the bacalao and the bacalao is absolutely perfect. Tip: if you're not a big eater, skip the appetizer cause the bacalao will fill you up!Bacalao had perfect mix of fish, potato and onion and they seemed to have put their own spice touch to it whoch worked very well!The restaurant is in a cozy quiet part of town, walking distance from all the major hotels. Nice atmosphere, background music and temperature.I recommend anyone who's in Kristiansund to try their world renowned bacalao, this restaurant might have the best in town.... Although it's the only one I tried here
