Reviews on Northern-Italian food in Varenna, Lombardy, Italy. Varenna is a slow-paced destination—most visitors come here to relax by the lake. But even if "Working on my tan" is the #1 thing on your itinerary, take some time to explore the area. There’s the Castello di Vizio, a medieval fortress surrounded by an olive grove. And you’ll want to view the old, tiered gardens at the Villa Cipressi—they stretch all the way down to the water. Finally, visit the source of the Fiumelatte, a peculiar river—it’s only 250 m long and disappears from October to March.

A bright room; a table with a view of the lake; an expert chef and sommelier on hand to advise on seasonal food and sensational wines. The tang of local cheeses, fresh lake fish or succulent seafood, replaced on the tongue by the full aromatic flavours of
We stayed in this hotel and would highly recommend. The food was Michelin quality.Sadly we were unable to sit on the lovely terrace due to the weather.

We were fortunate enough to see the line forming for this little trattoria and joined it. We dined outside and the food, service, and atmosphere were excellent. We almost went back a second night! The prices were reasonable with a varied menu to choose from. Definitely try this place in Bellagio. (The wine bar next door was also nice enough to let us have a couple of glasses in a "go" cup while we waited for this restaurant to open!)

Cibo Senza Glutine Per Celiaci
We had the lasagna and penne with bolognese for dinner and both were good. The house red wine was good. Prices are reasonable. They add â¬2.5 per person service charge. The service was satisfactory - the food came out quickly and the server was friendly.

Hot and cold dishes to take away. Own production.
We had the fortune of simply walking by while strolling the streets/hills of Bellagio to find this restaurant, how fortunate for us.We received a warm, friendly greeting and were seated and served by a very nice guy GiGi (pronounced gee gee) and I totally apologize for not spelling his name correctly, my apologies, a very polite guy who spoke great English which we always, always appreciate, thanks. We asked him to pick our meals for us which he gladly did and the choices were great, Parma ham with fresh figs, if you love both of these you must order this dish, large portion for sure! more than enough for one person, we shared.Second dish, pasta with black truffles, seriously??? it just can't get a lot better than this dish, pasta cooked to perfection (al dente, thanks very much!) COVERED in freshly shaved black truffles, we were told they were in season, who were we to argue. And the wine, I love Italy...simply ask for red table wine, usually a liter is good, half-liter if you must...The quality is fantastic and hard to believe it's simple table wine, love Italy!So...plan on going to this place for a lunch, mid-day, you'll love it, we did, and would go back in a second!

The CavaTuracciolo is an 18th-century cellar which has been completely restored. There is to be found a selection of more than 300 labels of local and national wines which can be tasted together with selection of fishes of the lake, mixed meats and cold c
Oh, my! What a great find! We stumbled onto this wine bar quite by accident and we just LOVED it! The owner and all of the staff were so helpful in helping us make fabulous wine selections (they have SO many choices). The atmosphere is Old World and very inviting. We were there on one rainy day and it was magical. We ended up having both lunch and a light dinner here and such great care was taken in the preparation and presentation of our meals. I highly, highly recommend stopping in here during a visit to Bellagio!

Wine Bar with local food
This wonderful wine bar is also a store, and they serve food, so it's a great place to go for an afternoon snack with wine, get some wine to take away, or have an after dinner drink. The friendly staff here are well-versed in their large wine selection. We really enjoy learning about local wines as we taste them, and here is ideal for that.

We rented an apartment for 5 days in Fiumelatte about a 2 minute walk away and ended up eating here several times. Super fresh fish, perfectly cooked, both persico and lavarello. Delicious pasta dishes, one a spaghetti with fresh porcini mushrooms, the other a ravioli with wild spinach. Nice wine selection. Friendly and attentive service. Very good food at a very fair price, served with a warm smile. Truly, a special find, the kind of authentic Italian restaurant that makes you want to return again and again . Mille grazie a Norma e tutta la squadra!

I made a reservation weeks before we arrived in Italy, based on a very positive review by a recognized restauranteur in the Washington, DC metro area. We were thrilled to arrive (6 hours late) after our delayed flight from Newark, grabbing a ferry from Bellagio to Varenna and then huffing and puffing our way up the hill to Il Cavatappi, working off the calories we would eat a bit later.Loved the size and decor of the interior, which seats 14 diners and there are an additional 3-4 tables outside, in the alley. Understated and tasteful, the dining room is warm and one side of the dining room allows a view of the chef and sous chef hard at work. Ricardo and Guiseppe are co-owners and have been at this location for 6 of their 22 years as owners. My husband RAVED about his pasta with duck ragout, declaring it the best pasta he has ever tasted.....and we have pretty good Italian food in NJ and NY. He cleaned his bowl, which is highly unusual. My burrata with oils and diced tomatoes was almost too beautiful to eat, but somehow I polished off the entire thing, rationalizing that because I have celiac disease, I was going to get my fill of rich cheese in lieu of gluten-free pasta. We loved the vibe of Il Cavatappi and I was very touched that they had a selection of gluten-free crackers they brought to me, when they delivered my husband's bread basket. Very thoughtful. I do wish there was some way they could offer a GF pasta, as it is very difficult to crave the special sauces you create and not be able to have them over pasta, due to a disease (which is not fun to have in the first place). It would be a nice addition to your already impressive cuisine and hospitality. Great meal. Beautiful decor. Grazie.
