After a fraught four hour drive from Northumberland we arrived in Stirling with our two kids under 3...I was seconds away from divorcing my husband and we were cold, hungry and irritable. Then a beautiful light shone from a tavern on the main road to the castle... 'Nicky Tams' it said. It might as well have said 'we will feed your crotchfruit, satiate your Cockwomble of a husband and feed you delicious food and our waiter Chris will be so kind and funny and helpful you'll forget all the blunt objects you were thinking of stabbing him with only moments before.' But Nicky Tams is shorter and more catchy I guess. Great food, great beer, dishy waiters.

We were staying in the area to do Ben Vorlich and needed something substantial after our hike so we called in an order. The staff were very polite and helpful, we asked for delivery and they popped me on the phone to the driver to make sure he knew where we were. Unfortunately, they only take cash but it wasn’t a big deal, we just drove to pick up via a cash machine. The food was fantastic! I have to admit looking at their prices (VERY cheap in my opinion) we weren’t expecting much but we were pleasantly surprised! I ordered special fried rice and I honestly think it’s the best I’ve had! (It can be a bit dry in a lot of places) If we are ever in the area again we’ll definitely be back!

Booked a table for the two of us in the Clachan Inn for our dinner whilst we were visiting the area for a few days, after reading reviews on this site, and it didn`t disappoint .All Covid protocols were being followed to the letter, with track and trace info taken, masks worn and all customers wearing masks until seated. All the staff were very friendly and attentive which made us feel welcome. The food was excellent. We had a lovely garlic bread to start and both chose the ribeye steak, which were cooked to perfection and i chose the whisky and haggis sauce, which was also delicious. My other half was stuffed by this point but still managed to eat a good portion of my homemade honeycomb cheesecake dessert..I would highly recommend a visit if you are ever in the area.We will return next time we are nearby
