From the wine to the vibe this place checked all of the boxes. The guys behind the bar were awesome, it’s all family run and that comes through. They even support local craft people by selling their products in their store! The only hard part is selecting whether this will be the perfect beginning or perfect ending to your wine tasting experience in Los Olivos.

A fabulous place to enjoy wine, beer and shrub tastings along with gourmet cheese and charcuterie platters! You can choose between flights, tastings or by-the-glass. Relax on the outside patio or enjoy the air-conditioned inside and talk with the servers about your favorite wines. Cheese pairings available as well to go along with any tasting or flight. Dog friendly on the patio. Unfortunately children cannot come in or be on our patio. Must be 21 or older to be on the premises.

All of the wines produced by CrossHatch Winery are co-fermented blends sourced from Santa Barbara County vineyards. CrossHatch is a winery created in 2011 by winemaker Ryan Carr that focuses on co-fermented blends from Santa Barbara County vineyards. After making only single varietal wines for eleven years, winemaker Ryan Carr wanted to try something different. He and his wife Jessica came up with the idea for CrossHatch, inspired by the classic form of art. Cross hatching is an artistic technique that uses closely spaced intersecting lines to create shading, definition, and form in a drawing. Carr took this technique and adapted it into the winemaking process by harvesting multiple varietals on the same day then crushing and fermenting them together. Co-fermentation brings out and creates flavors in the wine that would not have existed otherwise. This makes the CrossHatch wine truly one of a kind. Visit the tasting room in Santa Ynez, CA for wine tasting and wines by the glass.

Kaena is an awesome tasting room with a distinctly local Hawaiian story to it. My wife and I were recommended to visit Kaena, which is a few doors down from the Fess Parker Inn where we were staying. As soon as you walk into Kaena, you know you are in a different kind of tasting room. Kaena has a really casual feel, with decor that recalls old Hawaii. Mike, the owner, was there when we visited, and we found out he actually grew up and went to school in Hawaii, near our home. Mike's story as to how he became a winemaker is really awesome, and he is an extremely warm and friendly guy, with a really big heart. This guy exudes aloha. But in all seriousness, this is Los Olivos we are talking about, so if you are going to have a wine tasting room, you gotta have some game. Well, Mike's Kaena winery did not disappoint. His passion, and his specialty, is Grenache wine. You will taste grenache at some of the other tasting rooms, but Kaena's Grenache really is a step above. We enjoyed it very much, and purchased some of his estate Grenache. Now from time to time you will see folks walking around time holding a bottle or two that they bought from a tasting room, but we actually met a couple of folks in Los Olivos who were carrying a case of Kaena's Grenache. Now how often do you see that? Answer: It's really rare. When you visit Los Olivos, you really do have to make a short list of tasting rooms to visit, as there are way too many to begin to visit them all. I certainly recommend that Kaena be on your list. The wine is very enjoyable, and so is the Hawaiian vibe and story that go along with this place.
