Top 10 Night Tours in New Zealand, New Zealand

May 19, 2022 Russell Mellin

New Zealand (/njuːˈziːlənd/ ( listen); Māori: Aotearoa [aɔˈtɛaɾɔa]) is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. The country geographically comprises two main landmasses—the North Island (Te Ika-a-Māui), and the South Island (Te Waipounamu)—and around 600 smaller islands. New Zealand is situated some 1,500 kilometres (900 mi) east of Australia across the Tasman Sea and roughly 1,000 kilometres (600 mi) south of the Pacific island areas of New Caledonia, Fiji, and Tonga. Because of its remoteness, it was one of the last lands to be settled by humans. During its long period of isolation, New Zealand developed a distinct biodiversity of animal, fungal and plant life. The country's varied topography and its sharp mountain peaks, such as the Southern Alps, owe much to the tectonic uplift of land and volcanic eruptions. New Zealand's capital city is Wellington, while its most populous city is Auckland.

We booked this trip for the couple we were staying with whilst in QT as a thanks for their hospitality. Chris is a big beer drinker so we knew he'd love the opportunity to go out and visit some places without driving that were outside of Queenstown. His wife, Sharon we were slightly worried about as she doesn't like beer too much but the stops on this tour catered for both! She tried ginger beer, ciders and mulled wines and Chris got to taste lots of different beers because the exclusive offers that accompany the tour. A great way to spend an evening!

Everything about the day was great including the cheese sampling stop over in Arrowtown. The different types of vineyards were a good introduction to the local area & how they go about what they do. Having little knowledge of wine & more of a beer participant I was impressed by the knowledge & passion to all those that we met & we all enjoyed sampling the different types of local wines. Alia our knowledgeable, very pleasant & ‘designated’ driver certainly made our trip something to remember. None of our group had been on a wine tour before & this won’t be our last. Highly recommend Altitude????

Brilliant experience from first contact through email to the half day 1pm-6pm tour itself. Syrus, our initial contact, ended up being our tour guide as well and he was amazing: helpful, knowledgeable and on the day was friendly, informative, a great photographer and thoughtful - for instance, he kept an easy walking pace for my parents who are in their sixties. With a toddler and 3 adults, it was only a few extra dollars to book a private tour and I'm so glad we did. It was great to pick and choose the tourist spots to go to without the confines of a set-in-stone itinerary and though the plan was to see two waterfalls and two beaches, this turned out to be a bit over-ambitious on my part! Syrus was really flexible on the day though and happy to go at a much more leisurely pace and we ended up going to Kite Kite falls and the black sand beach. On the way there, there were stop offs at some beautiful scenic spots and though a late request on our part, an afternoon tea break was even slotted in at a lovely cafe just before it closed. The walk to Kite Kite falls took about an hour with a toddler - bring a carrier to make the walk quicker and easier as there are stairs. Bring a spare towel and flip flops for when you get to the waterfall, too. The beach has a car park right next to it and there's a cafe to stop off for a drink, chips or some ice cream. The private vehicle came with a baby car seat and it was comforting to know the car journey was only 40 minutes away from Sydney where pick up and drop off from our accommodation was included. Based in Auckland, this was one of the very few tours available which is less than an hour from the city. And doing a private tour meant the afternoon of sightseeing was done at a much more relaxed pace making it all the more enjoyable and so memorable. I'd completely recommend Syrus from Tour Bro. and would very happily use them again - perhaps for our future South Island trip :)
