Reviews on New Zealand food in Turangi, North Island, New Zealand. Turangi is a small town on the west bank of the Tongariro River, 50 kilometres south-west of Taupo on the North Island Volcanic Plateau of New Zealand. It was built to accommodate the workers associated with the Tongariro hydro-electric power development project and their families. The town was designed to remain as a small servicing centre for the exotic forest plantations south of Lake Taupo and for tourists. It is well known for its trout fishing and calls itself "The trout fishing capital of the world". The major Māori hapu (tribe) of the Turangi area is Ngati Turangitukua.

Oreti Restaurant has elevated panoramic lake Views over Lake Taupo - We serve good kiwi favourites often with a European or Asian Influence. A family owned and operated business , Oreti restaurant is favoured spot amongst locals and holiday makers. Specia
We had a lovely evening at Oreti Restaurant. The ambiance and Service was superb. Looking back down Lake Taupo without the crowds of Taupo City was captivating on a lovely evening. The fish was very well cooked and very tasty. My friend said his steak was "melt in your mouth". The duck I had was sparse and a bit tough and not falling off the bone as expected of a " duck confit". The ginger sauce that accompanied it was lovely.Thank you for your wonderful comments. We are glad you had a great experience in our restaurant. I apologize the duck was a little tough, but glad that you enjoyed the ginger sauce which accompanied it. Hopefully you return to dine with us again soon. Hope you have a great weekend.Thank you,JamesResident Manager

Turangi's Sunniest Café!Step in to a time zone and check out our Rockabilly 1950's theme and enjoy great coffee, excellent food and service with a smile. With a very extensive menu there is something for everyone here at our family friendly Café.
Don't be fooled by the fun decor and the number of people. We waited 45 minutes for our order after placing it with the brusque red-headed woman at the counter. When our meals finally appeared it was at best warm and worse barely tepid. We were all so hungry we didn't complain. Perhaps this is better as a stop to get a latte rather than a burger. Toasties (aka grilled cheese with various meats) seemed to be what came out of the kitchen quickly - without apparent priority given to those (like us) who ordered before others).

The Tongariro Lodge restaurant, is renowned for excellent food. The menu is updated seasonally to incorporate the best of local produce. We are open for Breakfast from 7am and Dinner from 6.00 pm Lunch by appointment. To avoid disappointment we recommend
Just come home from one of the very best dinners. Great food and exceptional service from the staff. An excellent wine list to compliment the food. This was a special birthday dinner with friends and the Chef also prepared a fantastic birthday cake. Full marks with high distinctions for all concerned and a special thanks to the Lodge Manager, as we are from overseas who assisted in helping make this such a great night and responded to our telephone and email requests with such patience.

My wife and I (from the UK) were visiting family in Turangi who recommended Parklands as a nice place to eat. We had two really good evening meals there. We ordered drinks for the bar before being shown to our table. The menu was nicely varied - I had the Orange Roughy both times - and we all enjoyed our food. Service was fast, friendly and efficient. Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. Much appreciated.

The Turangi Bridge Bar and Restaurant offers a stylish and welcoming atmosphere for sampling mouth-watering New Zealand cuisine. A Turangi icon since 1931, our restaurant has a genuine history and ambience unlike anywhere else. The large open fire makes i
Dined with 3 friends. Friendly welcome by staff. Menu was surprisingly old fashioned with a âclub likeâ feel to the food, ie steak/fish/chicken except the chicken wasnât available. One person had the steak which was offered with egg and chips, almost a standard dish from the 1970âs. The steak was okay but was more well done than the medium rare ordered. Two people had the lamb shank and liked the flavours and the tenderness of the slow cooked shanks. I had Terakihi fish and chips with the fish fried in panko breadcrumbs (a semi-modern take on crumbed fish), but the crumbs overwhelmed the delicate flavour of the Terakihi. Good chips but the salad looked like it came out of a packet of mixed leaves from a supermarket, with a wedge of tomato and a slice of cucumber, Service was friendly but we had to ask for wine glasses to go with the wine. Staff seemed to be very amateurish with the wrong wine delivered to the table, and when the correct wine was brought it wasnât opened, just plonked on the table. This place offers casual but old fashioned food, some good but you could cook it yourself at home.

This place is nice. Food is good but not exceptional. The setting is the real highlight, the lake backdrop is gorgeous and we had a lovely table by the window. I had the steak which was on special which was definitely quantity over quality - a LARGE portion, but a bit fatty and not the best cut. My partner had the snapper and tiger prawns which was very nice. The chocolate torte was also good for dessert.

New Zealands oldest Tackle Shop adjacent to the famous Tongariro River (trout)with a recently added Cafe, with a fly fishing theme, serving breakfast, brunch, lunch, all produce is made on sight fresh daily.(Cooked breakfast weekends) Espresso Coffee, loo
We went here based on the Trip Advisor reviews. Off the beaten track in a peaceful suburban street. Small cafe attached to a fishing tackle shop. Nice range of baking and cabinet food. Can sit inside or out as we did on a beautiful spring day.
