Great afternoon getting close to and learning about certain wild animals followed by delicious afternoon tea! Hearing about how the animals have been rescued & learning about their habitats etc was fascinating. Seeing the baby elephants &!feeding the giraffes were highlights as was seeing the pangolin run across the lawn! Tea in the conservatory was a nice final treat.

Imire: Rhino & Wildlife Conservation

Reviewed By imrogermac

I volunteered at Imire for 2 weeks, and the experience was so good that it’s honestly beyond any description I make here. I feel like every moment here was special as it had its own lesson to be learned and experience to be lived. I had initially volunteered for the wildlife, but my greatest eye opening experiences came from the people and the surrounding communities involved with Imire. And here, as a volunteer, you can also get involved in every area, which is a privilege that not many people have the opportunity to experience. I’m now more aware of the tremendous effort that goes into running a successful conservation project, and how without every aspect working together a project like this could easily become unsustainable. And by personally handling Elephant and Rhino, I also became much more conscious about the impact that this project has on the responsible conservation of these vulnerable species… though big in size, they’re so sensitive and deserving of the utmost respect and admiration. Volunteering at Imire is a big responsibility, but it’s fulfilling and it’s a heck of a lot of fun. Days are long and filled with activities like handling and walking with elephants, tracking and feeding rhinos with anti-poaching teams, teaching kids how to read and express creativity, helping the adorable ladies with their community projects, meeting locals, horseback riding with the loveliest people, game drives, game counts, field assessments, building rafts, planting trees, cleaning lion enclosures, chasing incredible sunsets, and plenty more with people who are genuinely excited to have you there, and look out for you. In fact, the entire team and house staff will move mountains to make your stay an incredible and memorable one from the moment you arrive to the moment you depart Harare airport. This is one piece of paradise I’ll be returning to for sure, and highly recommend to anyone that’s into responsible conservation. As I’m writing, I can’t help but recall good memories and songs sung with a lit soul and a smile on my face. Imire: Rhino & Wildlife Conservation, this is all on you! :D Thank you! “We’re happy to be together”

Mavuradonha Wilderness Area

Reviewed By 194arnoldb

There are many mountainous places in Zimbabwe and the Eastern Highlands are the most well known. As far as popularity is concerned, Mavuradonha is a poorer cousin, which is a surprise because Nyanga has nothing on this gem in Mash Central. The mountain range is stunning, covered in Msasa woodland and offering angelic views of the Msengezi river as it flows through the valleys below. The most spectacular feature is how the mountain range suddenly terminates and gives way to Dande Valley, a flat but fertile valley that stretches as far the eye can see. The contrast is unbelievable and the views simply amazinf. The hikes up the mountains is also a sight to behold, so too is the serenity of the place. There is a view for each day and one never gets tired of exploring the untouched mountain range. Nyanga may have taller peaks but Mavuradonha offers the most picturesque with its vegetation. Although we saw no animals there, signs of leopard, buffalo and elephant were plentiful. The drawback is one. Unlike Nyanga, Mavuradonha has only one lodge/hotel and it is stunningly horrendous, Mavuradonha Eco Lodge. The facilities must have been close to being world class some time back but signs of neglect scream in your face. disintergrating thatch, bloodied linen, toilets without ceilings, rooms that are not cleaned before check-in, chalets that share a wall without a ceiling for privacy, neglectful staff, its a total disaster that fortunately is saved by the breathtaking beauty of the blue mountains.

Painted Dog Conservation

Painted Dog Conservation is an organisation that evolved out of pure scientific research being conducted in Hwange National Park in the mid 1990s. It soon became apparent that vast majority of dog deaths outside of Hwange National Park were found to be due to human causes—snares, traffic accidents, shootings—led by a general ignorance and prejudice towards the species. This cemented our core approach to helping painted dogs, which remains the same today: to identify the critical issues and find a way to make a significant and lasting contribution to painted dog conservation, conservation of nature, and the lives of the local community with a special emphasis on the individual.

During a three month trip to southern africa I had the pleasure to visit this place. The staff has been superfriendly and told me a lot of interesting facts about the wild dogs. What a great and important job they do! The small exhibition was free and very informative and well maintained. "Unfortunately" the Mpindo Pack the first time ( I followed their story online) had just been released, so I didnt see them, but got to see two wild dogs who were in recovery. My friends at home also loved the souvenir wild dogs, who were made out of former snares. Thanks to all of you for your effort to safe this species!

Chipangali is a haven for wild animals which have little hope for survival in the wild - creatures which have been orphaned, abandoned, injured, born in captivity or brought up unsuccessfully as pets. It is often the last refuge for those brought in sick or injured, and increasingly it is a sanctuary for confiscated animals. We invite children and animal lovers of all nationalities to visit our Animal Orphanage and take an educational tour to learn more about African wildlife. We have 150 animals and birds located in 40 acres. There is a tea room for snacks and a souvenir stall. Lots of shady places to sit and have a picnic. School groups and other large groups welcome.
