The high flyers show was one of the highlights for us, such an interesting, funny and informative session, we thoroughly enjoyed it, The other particular highlight, was feeding the parrots nectar although the little beggars can bite hard!! A well laid out and beautifully kept park with lots of keepers to give information of various birds. Would visit again

Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

This 200-acre reserve, situated north of the island, is home to over 150 species of rare and exotic birds.

Despite being a stone city, we do care for nature! Spent this morning at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve made me realized how much our National Parks Board has done through research and education to conserve this wetland. It gave us the outdoor classroom to experience what nature has to offer Sunday morning walk at the 202 ha of this rare oasis of natural wonders and home to unique plants and animals. Following through the trails of mangroves, mudflats, ponds and forest with refreshing smell, sights and sounds of nature. Started from the visitor centre at Kranji way, we head to the Forest Trail, a 300metre stroll to the mid of Canopy Walk and to the Eagle Point lookout pod. There are five look out pods that could give you different views. After completing the Coastal Trail, we continued to the Magrove Boardwalk and the Migrating Bird Trail. It was certainly a refreshing and educational morning for me. Would love to do it again.

MacRitchie Nature Trail

A short trip from the city center lies the serenity of MacRitchie Reservoir, part of Singapore’s water catchment system that captures rain water to help supply the island’s growing population. Trails surround the park, which has an upgraded visitor’s center featuring a café, restrooms and information station. The best views are from the TreeTop Walk, a 250-meter suspension bridge across the rainforest canopy, which can be accessed along the seven-kilometer Venus Loop. Wear hiking shoes and bring water.

This 10 km run is different from the 5 km run that we ran in our school days cross country. You landed up deep in the forest. If you are a nature lover, you should experience the MacRItchie nature trail The 10 km takes four hours to complete but if you have someone who cannot keep upwith the pace and you have to wait for her/him you may end up five hours before you can finish the trail. If you bring food. eat when you are out of the sight of monkeys. They seem sweet, adorable and certainly know how to pose in front of cameras. But once you bring out your food they will run down from the tree to the ground and snatch your food. One hiker walked on the treetop brought out some food. The monkey walked on the rope and snatched the food. The tree top walk gate closes at five pm . When you pass the gate, it warns you that it is a one way traffic This is the yellow route. You will pass by the Jelutong Tower . Climb up the spiral steps , Reach the top and you will get a good view of the forest canopy There is also the ranger station where people play golf. Beware when you are there, do not use the lane that that is meant for the rangers .Do not enter or you may get hurt by the golf balls There is this Shinto Shrine which Japanese built to commemorate soldiers who died in the Malaya and Sumatra War. Before Japanese surrendered , they destroyed Shinto Shrine so that it would not be desecrated. Follow the signs closely, or you may land up heeding to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. You have to pass by the landmarks that I mentioned. Use a GPS Do not walk into the forest with an empty stomach or with minimum water supply There is no food along the trail, there are only two toilets . Travel light with enough water, food handphone medicine.and bring umbrella raincoat and hat .

Lower Peirce Reservoir Park

Reviewed By Kim025Singapore - Singapore, Singapore

The Lower Peirce Reservoir, Singapore's second-oldest reservoir, was built by impounding the upper reaches of the Kallang River (the longest river in Singapore) and was commissioned in 1912. Hence it was originally named Kallang River Reservoir. In 1922, the reservoir was renamed the Peirce Reservoir in recognition of Robert Peirce, who was the Municipal Engineer of Singapore from 1901 to 1916. It acquired its current name in 1975, after the Upper Peirce Reservoir was built. This reservoir is like a compact MacRitchie Reservoir as the boardwalk trails, playground, fishing area and walking path around the reservoir with its draw-off tower are all within short walking distance. In fact it probably takes less than 1.5 hours to cover the Lower Pierce Reservoir. There are marvellous views of the rolling golf course of the Singapore Island Country Club and the Upper Pierce Reservoir. Although the boardwalk is only 900 m long, it is a peaceful walk by the water’s edge through a mature secondary forest. A plant seen along the walk is the Ant Plant (home for ants). The ant and this plant have a symbiotic relationship. The ant depends on this plant for its food while the plant is protected from being eaten up by other insects by the resident ant. The Nibong Palm, also seen here, has many thorns on its trunk. As the plot of land adjacent to it was formerly a rubber plantation, many rubber trees are also seen here. There are informative signboard along the boardwalk to educate about the flora and fauna of this forest.

Hindhede Quarry

Reviewed By LimCT168 - Singapore, Singapore

This park is located within Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and it has several trails. Take a leisurely stroll here and enjoy the fauna and flora of Bukit Timah. It is suitable for elderly and children. If you stand facing the visitor centre, the Hindhede Nature Park is on your left. It is wheelchair accessible but be mindful about the long slope from Visitor Centre. It takes about 10 minute for me to walk from carpark to “lookout” point overlooking the large Hindhede Quarry. Fish and tortoises greet you at the lookout point. Occasionally, you can see monkeys, monitor lizards, squirrels and birds too. There is a small park for children and playground where you can try the “flying fox”. There are wooden tables and chairs where you can have a picnic if you like. Opening hours is from 7am to 7pm. If you want to take MRT/train, alight at DTL (blue line) Beauty World Station Exit A. There are many public buses that stop along Upper Bukit Timah Road and Jalan Anak Bukit. Carpark is limited and quite occupied during weekend. Do note that no pets are allowed and feeding of monkey is prohibited.

If driving, Dairy Farm got a carpark when out BKE. Either way, Hillview Mrt exitA to walk over. I often jog up to the Dairy Farm from the bus stop about 10mins to cut short the walk. At the carpark, have toilets & water cooler to get hydrate! Then trek up to the Summit, at a point got 2 routes to trek, either 1 is good to move or can loop another round. Up to BtTimah Summit takes about 30mins, depends on individuals. Then i trek down the same path back to Dairy Farm as We heading to Singapore Quarry! Its back to the main road to jog back to Hillview but will stop at a point at left side to lead up to Quarry, long distance around 1.1km to reach there. It will be a quiet trek so enjoy the nature while sweat up. Till u reach Quarry, definitely an oasis of serenity amidst the bustling city. Rest there awhile, even can sit at a corner or in the hut. Rem do bring bottles & towel along~ After done still can walk back to Hillview, up to Rail mall to have lunch!

Venus Loop at Windsor park consists of a boardwalk and a forest trail in a loop. I like the forest trail here as it is very peaceful and rustic and I called it "my secret garden". I often walk here after exiting from Macritchie Nature Trail. One can either walk this forest trail to the Tree Top walk or walk the boardwalk section of the Venus Loop to the Tree Top walk. It is a very manageable and easy walk.

When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure which brings tears and smiles. Thomson Nature Park, located between Old Upper Thomson Road and Upper Thomson Road. Explore the five trails spanning 3.8 km around the former village's road network created by NEA. It brought memories to the way of life during my kampung days. It is also a life show case of the variety of floral and faunal species found among the ruins.
