We enjoyed our tour on the private reserve. It was a bit long for some of our family but our guide really wanted to show us certain birds including the antpita. After the tour you go for a home made breakfast, which was delicious!

Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary is a non-profit organization where we Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release Costa Rica's exotic wildlife back into the jungle! 100% of your donation goes to care for the animals. You will see a variety of species and hopefully walk away with an understand on the importance of conservation.
We enjoyed this tour. We were prepared or thinking this was going to be a long hike/walk however, this is just a short circle around their sanctuary. Our guide was great, shared the great work their team is doing, shared some sad stories and most importantly educated us on what to watch for and what to do should you see an injured animal or sloth. We got really lucky and seen the two sloths being active. Highly recommend.

We have been to the Sierpe River with Kokopelli twice. Each time we saw an amazing array of birds, monkeys, and other wildlife. Their guides and boats are superb. The Sierpe River is one of my favorite places in Costa Rica for wildlife photography and each time was incredible. I plan on returning again and again. These guys are great. Don't miss!

We are a family of 5 from Montreal, children’s age: 13, 8 and 4. We just had the most amazing time at Golfo Dulce Retreat and we recommend it with all our heart. It’s the perfect family vacation. Luxury cabins in the middle of the jungle, a two-minute walk from a spectacular private beach. In the same day, we were woken up by monkeys, and in the afternoon, dolphins swam around us while longboard paddling. You will stay entertained all day, one day you will be kayaking in the mangroves and the other day you are snorkeling with amazing corals and fishes! This is a perfect place for kids and adults for relaxation and adventure. Our kids left completely amazed and … in love with the owners Chantelle and Simon as well as Katie, a biologist from Cambridge University, who taught our kids so many things about different species in the jungle. Let’s not forget about the food. We still can’t grasp how is it possible to feel like we’re eating in Italy, but in the middle of the jungle in Costa Rica! We often say that we will return for sure to a place we loved so much, but at the end, we never do. I hope this time we will.

Birding and Nature Tours, Central Pacific - Manuel Antonio
We had a terrific early morning birding tour with Oscar Herrera near his village Villa Nueva and in the new birding spot Esquipulas. We saw around 50 different species and Oscar was an excellent guide in spotting and naming the birds. The Esquipulas spot was also terrific (with a lovely breakfast) and an enormous variety of birds very well displayed.

I recently moved to Quebrada Amarilla. I am delighted to live close to the Royal Butterflies attraction. I just visited today for the first of what I expect to be many times and a place where I bring all visitors.. Dan and Donna showed me around. The setting is beyond beautiful. The attraction is on the same property as the most spectacular tree house I have ever seen. I have been recommending the tree house to all my friends. The tree house has beautiful views and is amazing from an architecture prospective even including a hidden room as well as all the amenities you would expect from a hotel room. The Royal Butterflies attraction is also surrounded by many other tall trees and close to a gentle river but well off the road and quietly away from the modest traffic. But back to the butterflies. The exhibit features extremely colorful and beautiful assortments of butterflies in a quiet and beautiful location. The setting was tranquil and I simply wanted to rest and absorb the fluttering creatures. I came out of the exhibit as if I had been in a deep relaxing meditation.

There are only a few places in the world where bioluminescence can be seen every day of the year. And luckily for travelers to the Nicoya Peninsula there is one such place here. Let's back up a minute and talk about the bioluminescence. What is it really? Bioluminescence is a light created by living organisms through a chemical reaction, biological light. You might have seen it in some form on land as fireflies or glow worms. In the gulf it is the algae that create this magical effect. Upon being disturbed, the algae give off a burst of light. Since there are millions of them it looks like sparkles. One of the best ways to see it is to get a look from above, and kayaking is a great way to see it well. The algae stick to your paddle, your hand or floating debris glowing for many seconds if you encounter a strong patch. When you kayak over shallow areas, fish will be scared up and it looks like fireworks under water as they take off, leaving a trail of “fairy dust" in their wake.

Animal shelter and rescue organization dedicated to rescuing homeless and abandoned dogs and cats, spay and neuter, and animal welfare education in Uvita, Costa Rica. Visitors are welcome to visit the shelter, play with the dogs and cats, and help out with work around the shelter. The shelter is open to the public on Saturdays from 9-12 or by appointment other days of the week.
Amazing work is done here! The volunteers care for the many cats and dogs. Everyone is compassionate and upbeat. We started as volunteers then adopted the first dog we tried (not too hard) to foster.Poloma is a love and El Refugio brought her back from the brink of starvation and ruin. We are so grateful! Please donate to them. They help to get medical care not just for those they care for but procure rides for animals to and from the vet not in their care. The community and the animals are fortunate to have them!
