The Cache la Poudre River is the heart of the Cache la Poudre National Heritage Area, which follows the Poudre downstream for 45 miles from Larimer County in the west where the river emerges from the Rocky Mountains, and ends near Greeley, Colorado, just before its confluence with the South Platte River.

This is a great area to visit . There are lots of trailheads and campgrounds. The river is excellent for fishing, tubing , kayaks and walking . The views are spectacular !!

Riverbend Ponds Natural Area

This is a nice place, close in town for a walk to see the birds and waterfowl. Limited parking and most trails don't allow dogs, only the one on the north side of Prospect. Make SURE you clean up though so it is not ruined for everyone!

Fossil Creek Reservoir Natural Area

Just a mile west of Interstate 25, this wildlife area has great paved walking paths along the reservoir wit a special viewing area to see birds and animals. The parking lot is also host to occasional meetings of night sky viewers with their amazing telescopes. They love to share!

I visited this place with a friend. We went at 7 am and saw many different kinds of birds around the lake. It's relaxing and fun and is free to park. Bathrooms near the parking site.

One of the most unique trails in Fort Collins for the assortment of birds, raptors and variety of plants. Its busy at times, but the scenery is mind-blowing quiet and very enjoyable.
