Top 10 Nature & Parks in Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo

July 19, 2021 Jacquiline Delozier

Puerto Morelos, a peaceful village on the Mayan Riviera, is a place to experience the genuine Yucatan. Puerto Morelos makes an excellent base if you’re looking for someplace quieter than glitzy hotspots like Cancun and Playa del Carmen. Government eco-reserve designations protect the reef and mangroves—and the village itself—from development. Outdoor options range from thrilling jungle and diving adventures to serene bike rides or moped explorations.

Croco Cun Zoo

A totally awesome conservationist interactive adventure zoo. Touch, hold or feed wild local species.

Only a short distance from our hotel bit it would be worth a trip if staying in Cancun. Small zoo/sanctuary which is visited in around 1 hour with a guide, you get to hold many of the animals and walk in the crocodile enclosure which is for me, a unique experience. Finally get to feed the deer and meet Mexican hairless dogs - a bit of everything for animal lovers. Value for money for the experience and all proceeds go into maintaining this small operation.

ALLTOURNATIVE snorkel: After Book-it.com charged for resort, & other park/travel that was not truly included I went to find out from the locals where the best place to get a “true experience in snorkeling” that was not all commercially enhanced, over advertised & people that cared about our reef- this company staffs Marine Biologists as your guides! They are putting into the local environment & cleaning up this reef & studying the warming of our waters, growing counts in seaweed/algae & they were amazing as we swam to see so many different species of coral, fish, squid, a couple stingrays, barracuda, & baby octopus. I loved their passion & how they helped to educate those on board. Must go back! Support locals & our environment- please do not litter & recycle!

Great time zip lining, riding ATV’s, and exploring the cenotes on Dec 13th, 2020. Cesar and Rodrigo were so accommodating and spoke great English. Just awesome guys to spend the day with! We stayed in Cancun in the hotel zone, they picked us up and took us back. The entire day was VERY adventurous but we never felt like we weren’t safe. This excursion was absolutely perfect for our brave and adventurous 10 & 13 year olds. The zip lines are pretty intense, not for the faint of heart. Pretty amazing and authentic food included with our package. Such an awesome atmosphere and was a very “chill” non-touristy place. We decided that this experience made our whole trip to Cancun worth it. Can’t say enough.

Exciting, informative, well organized and managed. Excellent! Guide “Iggy” takes the group far beyond the “theme park” tour, with both scientific (geological) and cultural interpretations.

Excellent private tour of the sanctuary from volunteer staff who obviously love these animals very much. Educational and completely interactive, with opportunities to handle iguanas, pythons, boas, and even a hawk! The guide is passionate about the animals and he is also a falconeer! Bring bug repellent and prepare for a really great time! Worth every penny! Great value at 200$ pesos per person!

Reserva Toh

Great site to do outdoor activities, birdwatching and walking through the nature guided by specialist while helping a nature conservation project

Reviewed By 685jneilm - Glastonbury, United States

My wife and I have been coming to Cancun for several years now and have enjoyed the snorkeling and many other activities that are available. My wife is a birder that is particularly fond of raptors, and until this year we could not find someone that knew where to go and that could take us to see the birds native to the area. Fortunately, we found Attila Birding Tours of Quintana Roo through Facebook, and boy are we glad! Karime picked us up at our resort and drove us to Reserva Toh, and she and Luis then spent four hours showing us around the jungle preserve and spotting for us the many variety of colorful birds native to Mexico. We saw well over forty different species, and so many were life birds (those we were seeing for the very first time). Just to name a few, we saw a Pygmy Owl, a Black and White Warbler (my wife loves warblers), a White-fronted Parrot, a Northern Parula, a Masked Tityra, a Common Black Vulture, a Summer Tanager, an American Redstart, a White-Eyed Vireo, a gorgeous Red-throated Ant Tanager, a Cinnamon hummingbird, a Ruby Throated hummingbird, a Cozumel Emerald hummingbird (although there is a dispute that this really was a Canivet Emerald hummingbird because the Cozumel Emerald is endemic to the island of Cozumel), a Rose-throated Becard, a Black-headed Saltator, a Hooded Oriole, a Blue-grey Gnatcatcher, a Black-headed Trogon, a beautiful Lineated Woodpecker, and a Grey Hawk. Reserva Toh and it’s birds are beautiful, but Karime and Luis made our visit fantastic as they are so knowledgeable, observant, informative and fun. They know where certain species are regularly found, can tell you where to look and the names and characteristics of the birds you see, and even identify them by their songs. Visit Reserva Toh, and use Kirame and Luis at Attila Birding Tours if you want an especially great experience.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time spent here while on vacation nearby recently. I spent a few hours taking my time walking through the entire loop, stopping to take photos and look at the various plants and wildlife! I would have liked to have seen monkeys but everything else was fantastic and I am not disappointed at all. I would highly reccomend visiting Jardin Botanico Dr. Alfredo Barrera Marin! :)

This experience was by far our favorite from our trip to Puerto Morelos. Started with a van ride from PM - about 30 min. Then after orientation, put things in our lockers and did a little ziplining (two short and low lines) and then on to the first cenote. You could use stairs or jump in from a single platform (about 20 feet high). Then ATV ride down the street and into the jungle a bit to the second cenote. This one was wide open so had multiple zip lines at different heights and a diving platform at different heights. You could also use stairs to enter the cenote. Then ATV ride back and opportunity to change into dry clothes. Lunch was served with option to purchase cerveza and the van ride back. Would recommend for those who want an average thrill seeking adventure - was just enough for our speed. A few negatives (which we were mostly ok with): you are not allowed to have your cellphone with you once you check-in so you are kind of forced to purchase their photos if you want to have any pics of your experience. But this was ok with us as the photos they took were really good and we didn't have to think about taking photos the whole time. The zip lines were kind of lame compared to others we have done but considering we were with our kiddos (ages 9-18) and we didn't even know it was in the package, this was ok. Then we were rushed to finish our lunch even though we were the last to receive our meal. Also note the driver, guides and lunch staff request tips.
