Turbary Woods Owl and Bird of Prey Sanctuary is a pure volunteer based, non profit group of volunteers. The flying display give you the visitors, Children & Adults, the chance to participate in the flying display and have our birds land on your gloved hand as they fly to you for their food. We have a collection of over 80 birds of prey including eagles, hawks, falcons, owls, vultures and more unusual species. All the birds are housed in large open fronted aviaries, sheltered in a woodland setting. We assist conservation and education of these beautiful Birds and we are involved with an average of 50 rescues each year.
Thoroughly enjoyed our day at Turbary Woods today. The sanctuary is right next to a garden centre which has a cafe, which also has toilets. The cafe was reasonably priced and the food was delicious. We were allowed to get really close to the birds and the staff were all friendly and informative and you can see that they are all passionate about the birds. We learnt lots and were encouraged to get involved with the bird display which was really entertaining and interesting, Will definitely visit again, thanks for a great afternoon. Family of four ticket was £18.00, adults £6, children £4 and oap's £4. I think the fees are reasonable as the upkeep of the place must be expensive.

We recently pitched up and stayed two nights at the Bowland wild boar park camp site. The place is lovely and surrounded by nature. The facilities available were great and included; clean and modern shower/toilet block, fire pits, seating, walking trails and camping pods that looked warm and cosy. Dave and Anona were such great hosts. They were friendly and welcoming and very easy to communicate with. They were very understanding and helpful when my girlfriends car had some troubles close to the entrance to the park which we couldn't have sorted out without their support. Will definitely return at some point in the future :)

This former cotton town is striving to renew itself while retaining some of its grand past. Avenham Park and its approach through imposing Winckley Square and Ribblesdale Place is probably the best thing about Preston. It is certainly superior to a number of London parks. Elegantly landscaped alongside the river Ribble, with ponds, rockeries and a grand terrace and statues, the park caters marvellously for the family. It has a pleasant Pavillion cafe and a good Children's Play area as well as acres of well-tended green sward. And it is not very far from the shops, if it doesn't cure your addiction!

This is one of Lancashire's little gems and a really great cycle route. Whilst well established and much improved, it remains a really great cycle "tool". It is peppered with lots of interest, including nature reserves, pubs (some just off the route), cafes and parks. On show is some of the best and worst of Preston but a well labelled fun route. Suitable for almost any cyclist with some small, short hills (small dismount and push). Try it today.

Been visiting this local, bucolic place since I was a child nearly fifty years ago. Just a great place to walk your dog with family. The visitor centre is great. The cafe sells the best bacon butties. The wood carvings along the trails are fantastic and changing. Sadly the tiger carving has been stolen. It can get muddy with the British weather but wear boots and wrap up and it is great all year round. Took my children here during dusk on Halloween years ago and they loved the 'creepy' tiger woods! It does get busy but if you love dogs and own a dog friendly pooch then you'll all love it.

Nice walk at the bottom of Avenham/ Miller parks just out of the city centre, accessed from Winkley Square via Avenham Park, go down the very steep path to the river at the bottom where you can walk either way west to either the old bridge and do a circular walk crossing over the bridge and walking to the old tram bridge and back along the riverside path or you can walk down the old tram road away from the river and back, a nice stroll on a sunny day. The old tram road can be accessed from WaltonPark and you can walk down the old tram road to the river and do the walk along from that direction.

A delightful place. We particularly loved the Arctic Fox, Otters, Hairy backed armadillo and Capybara who all entertained us marvellously with their antics. The tamarins and dwarf mongoose were also beautiful. The bat house is extremely exciting if you dare go in! The Dik diks were gorgeous. We just wish the bearcats had a bigger house and we couldn't see their faces.
