Dumaluan Beach

Reviewed By sydneysider48 - Sydney, Australia

Alona Beach is overdeveloped, touristy, busy and tacky. By contrast, Dumuluan Beach - a 10 minute tricycle ride away - is quite, unspoiled and beautiful, with lovely sand, gently shelving, and clean azure blue water. There are eating and drinking facilities along the beach as well as large resorts where day entry can be available depending on the occupancy levels.

Good thing we skipped that rocky island and proceeded early at much earlier time at this island (sad we didnt see dolphins) and we enjoyed the crystal clear waters and the great white sand bar that we forgot the dolphins... even my son had a great time swimming and playing in the sand!!! Awesome island in the middle of the sea with such beautiful background all around!!!

Doljo Beach

This was such a nice change up from the more touristy Alona Beach. Almost nobody was there, and you can walk out into the water and there are thousands of starfish everywhere. You have to be careful not to step on them! There are no tourist restaurants, and it is all Filipinos hanging out there. A ton of construction indicates that this area will also soon be taken over by large corporate interests. Get there while the gittin is good!

One of our favorite places to visit in the Philippines was for sure Panglao, and especially the Donatela Hotel (Tarsier Botanika). We had such a great time. The hotel was built with nature in mind, and you experience that everywhere around you. Nestled in a natural landscape of 7,5 hectare of botanical gardens, the private villas are a dream ❤ They are designed to give privacy, luxury and space for the guests, and they for sure do. Each villa has it’s own private garden, and we have for sure used it. One of the afternoons we decided to have a long picnic with lots of food. The staff was very happy to help us with the set up and arranged all the food. There were pastries, fresh fruit, sandwiches and a fresh coconut. We also really like the design of the villas. It is based on the traditional Ifugao Tribal House concept found in the northern part of the Philippines, which gives a really cozy natural touch to the resort. Since few of the villas has it’s own private pool (!), the main pool was not crowded at all during our stay. We had so many chances to be absolutely alone at the huge pool, with a bar and very good wifi. While chilling at the pool, you hear lots of great birds. We walked around the property to see where the noises came from, and we found a mini zoo. With lots of rescued animals, as cats, a bearcat, parrots and lots of other birds. Really awesome! When you are visiting Panglao, you need to check out Donatela Hotel (Tarsier Botanika). The resort also boasts a fine dining restaurant, wine room, and a variety of activities, such as horseback riding, and spa treatments, apart form the tours and attractions of the island.

Isola di Francesco

Reviewed By 277Anngie - Dumaguete City, Philippines

What is formerly known as the Virgin Island with it's seedy reputation is now converted into a Holy Shrine. An exact opposite of the much crowded and touristy beaches of Panglao. Most of the cost to develop this place was donated so anyone can visit the place for free and enjoy it's facilities like the kayak and the boat shuttle. They even have a canteen where you can take a snack and drink for free also. You just need to give some donation. As little as 5 peso would do but more is much appreciated. The Shrine is planted with life size statues of Jesus and Saints and angels. Most come to pray, relax and meditate. Believers come to offer prayers for healing. Non believers are welcome too and enjoy the kayak or take a dip at the waters. Upon entrance, you will be met by a life size statue of the miraculous Padre Pio. As this is a Shrine, peace and soft talk is very much appreciated. Public display of affection and ogling is frowned upon here.
