I enjoyed very much my time spent at Maschsee although weather was not the best for outdoor activities. It is an artificial lake in a walking distance from the city center, suitable for all possible free time activities. It was built in 30th last century and one can identify sign of it. Especially the colummn with Olympic torch runner on its top takes a breath away and scare a bit at the other hand knowing in what intention such monuments were built and what followed. Anyway it makes this place not only recreation area but also historical place worth a more research.

The over 300 year old Herrenhäuser Gärten are a fascinating garden ensemble. It consists of the baroque Großer Garten, the botanical Berggarten and the Georgengarten in english landscape style.
One of the top attractions in Hannover, you can spend a few hours enjoying you walk, which includes magnificent buildings, botanical gardens, the famous fountain, impressive landscaping etc. Especially good in summer when the sunshines!

Our tour this summer took us to the Weltvogelpark. Initially, I wasn't all that excited about it and wondered what in the world we were going to do at a bird park for 4 hours! I think another one or two would have been great! The grounds are extensive and beautifully landscaped with so many beautiful flowers and plants and then there are the birds! Hundreds of birds of all kinds. The penguin show was entertaining and then there is the flight show!!!! OH MY WORD! Being an English speaker, the German narration was lost on me but you can get the gist of it. They highlight birds from around the world and it's done in a huge open field. The birds come flying from all parts and they are up close and personal. Falcons fly right over your head. They have huge condors that are so awkward on the ground. There is a lot of humor and then the finale... Well... It's a finale done on a grand scale! Music playing groups of birds flying all around. Very colorful and exciting. It's a moment when you just throw your head back looking all around, giggling with excitement. Just thrilling! Have your cameras ready because you're going to catch some amazing shots!

This is a nice and small zoo where you can walk in between various animals, like wallabies, dears, owls, parakeets and other birds, prairie dogs, etc. There are no giant animals like giraffes, elephants and bears and it has also a lot of animals which you also see in a petting zoo, like donkeys, goats, rabbits, etc. There is one scenery that actually blew me away. It is the one of the Siberian ibex. When you enter this, it is almost like you are watching a national geographics documentary on a very wide screen. Very nicely done!

A real Mecca for plant lovers is the Berggarten. What began around 1700 as a mulberry plantation for silkworm breeding is now a much-noticed botanical garden. The collections in the open air and in the show houses reflect the flora on all continents. The orchid collection is of worldwide importance. The Berggarten offers visitors a variety of beautiful plant treasures at any time of the year.
