This is one of my most favourite places in my town. I've been coming here for years for stunning cliff top views and costal walks. On clear days, you can see Dungeness. Beautiful in winter and summer throughout.

Alexandra Park

This is my local park and I think it is the best thing about Hastings! It is huge and varied from wild areas, ornamental flower beds, ponds -one with fishing, wild life including very cheeky squirrels, bowling greens, tennis courts and multisports hard surface area, a super cafe with outdoor seating, toilets, rare trees including champion trees, bandstand, a stream runs through it's great length and there is even a kiddies miniature railway with limited opening times sadly. Just try it when you visit Hastings, you won't be disappointed. It is a day out on it's own but I suggest not trying to see it all on one visit!

I do enjoy coming here for a stroll. Really serene. So close to the houses, but really doesn't feel like it.

Had enough of the beach, then wander back a block or two into this enchanting garden, beautifully kept, sit in the shade or the sun, meet some nice doggies and their owners, get the flavour of St Leonards which is here all day, every day!!

This seaside road is in the old town and is home to two museums and a SeaWorld type building, a life to take you up the cliffs, wooden buildings that were used to store fishing nets and plenty of places to buy fish ....an interesting street.

Old Roar Gill

Reviewed By teethaddict - London, United Kingdom

We spontaneously decided to visit old roar gill (without reading tips on here) and followed google directions which took us to Penhurst drive which was completely wrong! We ended up going to Alexandra park and they have sign postings for it after you get to the information point and the park cafe. The sign postings get quite scarce so we did get a little lost but just remember you need to get out of the park and cross the main road and re enter the park. Locals are really friendly and happy to help so ask! If you want to access the walk quicker park your car on St Helens road and enter the park through one of the entrances through there. The walk from the park to the beginning of old roar gill is 2km. Then the trek through the woodlands to the waterfalls is about 10 minutes. The treck is so beautiful we went in heavy rain and it was very slippery and muddy and wouldn’t recommend bringing toddlers. The path is very off beaten and buggy’s wouldn’t be possible. After we finished we ended up on the beginning of Ghyllside avenue (door numbers around 1-10) with a street of houses and civilisation! These people are so lucky to have this as practically their back garden! There was lots of water in the falls but it was raining very heavily and I can imagine on sunny/drier days the falls are probably not as spectacular! A great urban water fall and would definitely do it again!

Pett Level Beach

This is a diamond place. One of my favourites in the Sussex area. Especially the west end. Visit and explore the fossil beds, but be way about the cliffs, they can be unstable and occasionally there are rock falls. Very underpopulated even in summer. Very peaceful. has clean water and is a great place to explore, sunbathe of just spend time idling.

Pelham Beach

Reviewed By Andrew081 - St. Albans, United Kingdom

Pelham beach, with its large carpark, children’s play area, sand pit, volley ball court, baseball court, trampolines, three crazy golf courses, bicycle hire, funfair, amusement arcade, gelato, fish’n’chips, train ride, toilets etc. is a great destination for a family day out at the beach. The beach is made up of pebbles, but some sandy areas are exposed at low tide. Lifeguard cover is provided from 11am to 6pm from mid-July to early September. Car park charges apply during the summer months starting at £1.80 for an hour, then up to £9 for 24 hours – for most people 10 hours at £7.80 would be sufficient. Weekly tickets are available for £30. Payment by RingGo is possible, but the one time I did this I was charged an extra 20p.
