Only three miles outside downtown Buffalo, this environmental education and conservation site bordering Lake Erie offers hiking trails, boardwalks and a cattail marsh that is great for bird-watching. Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are popular in winter.
It is so nice to read the history of how this area was reclaimed from industry. Being Birders my wife and I quite enjoyed our hike and early glimpses of this springs migratory visitors. Many return trips are in the future.

08/09/20 Continuing our Covid-19 walks, one can start at the Billy Wilson Park and walk south through the wooded swamp toward Klein Road. One can take the kids to the playground and then take a nice walk in the shade. There are two swamps that one can see some painted or snapping turtle. It’s a nice relaxing walk on the boardwalk and trail.

It's been great seeing Buffalo's waterfront being built up over the past few years and this is just another example. Not only do you have the Naval Military Park that you can do tours of the ships and Submarines, but the Harborcenter itself is amazing. There is Pedal boating, ice-skating on the canal in winter, shopping at Clayton’s Toys & Gifts, Fowler’s Chocolates, The Healthy Scratch, and Red Siren on Main Street side of HARBORCENTER. There are hotels, 716 Food and Sport bar and so much more. Definitely a place to spend the wee-end as you can also walk acroos to Canalside and experience that as well!
