Nice walk, best done early morning. Recommended to take insect repellent as march flies are notorious and do sting. I had terrible reactions and was covered in inflamed, itchy bites for weeks. Other than that I really enjoyed the walk.

This secluded and somewhat hidden pocket of rare & ancient mabi forest is an absolute dream. It is one of the few places the Lumholtz tree kangaroo inhabits (we didn’t see one on our visit despite lots of looking up to the treetops) & there are birds and wildlife galore (we saw a pademelon hopping through the forest at one point). There is lots of excellent interpretive signage (including some amazing grand fig trees) & the walk is flat & easy so you can easily take in the nature. Turn right on the Kennedy Highway heading out of Atherton. There is a sign to turn off but it’s small & easy to miss so keep your eyes peeled!

Stunning scenery and very relaxed people. A vehicle is the only way to explore the area at your pace,

A lovely park, right in town. Some nice walking trails and a lovely open picnic space too. The birds and pademelons are lovely.

If you love birdwatching, especially wetland water birds, you will love Hastie’s Swamp National Park. Even if you notice the signs, and take an unplanned detour like I did, you will love it, or find it interesting. There is a huge variety of birds that come here and you will see a few of these at any given time. There is an elevated bird watching tower which you enter after climbing some stairs, and from here you get a great view of the wetland swamp where the water birds congregate as well as interpretive signage describing the birds of the area in detail. Hastie’s Swamp is just a few kms outside of Atherton, and well worth a visit.

Came across wild pigs, flocks of parakeets and leeches which dropped from the trees , absolutely loved this challenge to the summit and back in 7 hrs. This was 26 years ago - 1993

Falls seem to be three tiers with a couple of smaller falls at the top. Walk it not easy especially if you have any issues. Roots on track etc meant one needed to look down constantly. I found it difficult but well worth it.

We had always heard that the best time of day to view platypus was early morning or evening, but our schedule meant that we arrived at the Smokehouse Cafe around 11am. We decided to have a snack from the cafe before hunting platypus, but we actually spotted our first one as we were enjoying a very good coffee at a table overlooking a pond. When we walked down to the main viewing area (easy walk over sloping lawns through garden area), we saw another four platypus. Watching for the tell-tale air bubbles was tantalising, and we spent about 40 minutes as they moved across the ponds, sometimes closer to us as they moved through the water-lilies and sometimes further away. I've always hoped to see a platypus, but former attempts have all failed, so it was a fantastic experience!
