On the date of 11.21.1966 (Nr.96), the cabinet credited the area of Theth, with a surface of 2630 ha: from which 1680 ha are forest along the sea-line and the other part is gas-plot and grust. It is now declared a “National Park” and is overseen by the D.SH.P, district of Shkodra. Thethi Nature in SpringThe “National Park of Theth” lies into the center of the Albanians Alps, between the block “Bjeshket te Nëmuna” on the west, and the block of Jezerca on the east. Thethi is a tourist – alpinist region and it is the most important one north of the country. It is only 70 km away from the city of Shkodra. It is a part of the commune Shalë within the region of Dukagjin. The park is surrounded from all four angles with pitons (rocky) of the two blocks above, which ascend down towards the valley and create an amazing view. Some of the most astonishing parts of this national park are the followingThe peak of Radoines (2570m), Arapit (2217m), Paplukës (2569m), Alisë (2471m) etc. Hanging 750–80
I had some wonderful days hiking both in Theth and Valbona Valleys. Beautiful landscape, amazing mountains and woods - and the unforgetable nights filled with fireflies. And I mean filled... after sunset this most beautiful show would start, everywhere you looked you had dozens of small lights afloat in the air. The food was also great, some of the best yogurt and vegetables I ever had, and the people really nice.

The tower was really nice, maby outside by wood. You can pay 100 leke per person and you can go on the top floor where you can see the point wherw the lagoon meets the see. The view is amazing. There are 2 pelicans for the people to watch and you can camp there ore picnic. You can make a boat tour to the lagoon for 1000 leke.

Along with Berat and Gjirokaster, Butrint left the strongest impression on our 2 week Albania tour. It's an UNESCO heritage site, not to be missed if you're in Albania's south. Butrint national park is just a 10 min drive south of Ksamil. There's a big parking lot in front, and the entrance fee is low as around 6 Euros. The site dates back to 8th c BC, showing the Mediterranean historic timeline. Within the site you'll find Hellenic, Roman, Byzantine, Venetian and Ottoman heritage. Highlights not to be missed include: - Hellenic Lake and Lion gates from 4c BC - ancient Roman theater from 3rd c. and Roman baths, - Agora from Greek era, later Roman Forum as a center of civic and commercial life, - remains of 6th c Byzantine Baptistery, - Great Basilica from 6th c (perfect), - Acropolis on the middle hilltop with a small museum and great views, - Venetian tower. All around the park, there are explanations in English which is great and makes it very easy to navigate and understand. Great souvenirs inside the park at very reasonable prices. Count on around 2 hours for a visit.

Driving the coastal road from Vlore to Saranda is the best drive you can have in Albania. The distance between the two is only 140 km, but you need 3 hrs for that without stopping, so you might imagine how curvy the road is. The drive reminds of the Amalfi coast one on a smaller scale. With stopping, which I strongly suggest you need an entire day. I suggest this itinerary: From Vlore you ascend to almost 1.000 m altitude with a significant temp drop, driving through terrific mountain roads with several restaurants to stop or honey to buy along the way. First scenic spot is "Panorama Llogara" - terrific place with unbelievable views of the coast beneath you and from where paraglyders take off. After that, just two curves below is one of the bigger Enver Hohxa bunkers, along with several smaller, again great views. Your third stop should be Dhermi - imo best sea town with the best beach in whole Albania (you see it up from the previous two stops). Fourth stop is Himare, also a nice beach town. Fifth and last stop before Saranda should be the Ali Pasha fortress in Palermo bay (read that review). It will be a full day of great sites to see along the way.
