The museum owns large collections of objects and archives and conducts active digitization work. This fortress is a well preserved military installation that was built by the Swedes during the Cold War era and only closed in the early 1990s. Above ground, there are lots of pieces of military weaponry - guns, tanks, etc, as well as a restaurant that is open at lunchtime. Below ground, a guided tour takes you through what could be a functioning city today, complete with a small hospital, shop, sleeping quarters, office areas, dining room and intelligence offices. It's a really cool place to visit and reminds us about the seriousness of the Cold War era and what it meant for Sweden. It's a bit out of the way, being in northern Sweden, but if you happen to be around the Härnsand area, worth a visit.

The Rock Carving Museum has information on the rock carvings and its history, but also the rock paintings found in the region. Findings from the excavations made in Nämforsen are shown in an exhibition in the museum. Here you can see real carvings that are not painted, arrowheads, ceramics and chisels. The excavations on the southern side of the river were made in 1944 and the settlement is still considered one of Europe's richest.

Mannaminne opens 2 May 2020. Mannaminne is created by the Swedish artist Anders Åberg (1945-2018) ant it is a unique place where over 50 buildings welcome everybody to a meeting between nature and culture, art and technique, history and future, locally and globally, tiny to big things. You walk between an agriculture museum, art museums, a Chinese pavilion, tubewagon and trams, houses from Hungary, Estonia and Norway, a coastal museum, a traditional Norwegian church, a giant handmaid terrestrial globe in a house of its own, an accordion museum, a technique house with lots of vehicles, a Draken Swedish aerofighter, an open roasting-house for coffee, a tow-boat from the river of Ångermanälven and much, much more. Mannaminne is enchantingly situated in the village of Häggvik in Nordingrå and is one of the most visited spots in the World Heritage Höga Kusten.
